This is on our 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3. The CEL (P0456 - Small Evap Leak) had been on since the winter ended. I ordered some other parts from RA, and threw in a gas cap as the easiest way to start.

I didn't reset the CEL, but after several days it has gone out on its own. Fingers crossed that this will turn out to be the solution.

If you had a CEL for 6+ months and now that you replaced the gas cap and it cleared, I would say you found your problem.

Some codes have to cycle a few times before they clear by themselves.

If a new gas cap solves your problem consider yourself lucky. In my personal experience with Chrysler products, in most cases we had to take it to someone who has a smoke machine to find the "slow" evap leak.

Right!
Gas cap.
If you replace the gas cap, buy an OE or you won’t be happy
Truth there - hard to believe that something so simple as a gas cap (and even thermostats and radiator caps!) you can't always get right aftermarket.
This was an aftermarket unit from RA - and the lanyard that keeps it from being left behind was weird and incompatible. I had to add a cable tie to attach it. ☹️

However, function is good, so far.

I sure hope so - time will tell.

I'm cautiously optimistic - not sure we're out of the woods yet.
