To me the coolest thing about the P51 is it is tiny.

The P-38 is my absolute favorite WW-II aircraft, but I've loved the P-51 ever since I first saw one in a book when I was a kid. The most cherished entry in my logbook is 0.7 hours of instruction in a P-51C.

Friend has one. My first time sitting in it, I was amazed by how small it is and how high you sit relative to the cockpit rails, could understand feeling vulnerable with 1/4" of Perspex from below one shoulder to the other. Visibility is amazing.

There was one at the Cherry Point airshow in September. It had the Red Tail markings. Fighter pilots said it was the sportscar of aircraft. This had to be the Luftwaffe's bête noire. I think it was equaled only by the Chance Vought F-4U:
