OVERSIZED oil filters

It's just over-reasoning. If all things are proportional, a larger/longer filter should offer you higher loading capacity, lower fluid velocity (which should increase efficiency) and less PSID on the occasions when one may encounter such things. Assuming the same media, one would have better filtration.
