I am considering running an oversized oil filter . Any opinions and options you would recommend?

What problem you solving by going over sized? Also, in the rare event you have a filter failure, the filter maker can deny warranty if your over size filter is not cataloged for your application.

I can understand why you are thinking about a larger filter but you will never see if any the difference.

Question- why?
Opinion- Don't do it.
Option- I would stick with the stock size. Many times filters vary in burst strength. Just going
oversize blindly just because it screws on is foolish. You won't clog that stock filter into
bypassing antway.

PH2 size filters will fit. Not sure about clearance on that particular engine, but the thread (22 mm x 1.5 mm), gasket size (2.45/2.76 vs PH2 2.42/2.81), and bypass settings (9-12 psi) are nearly identical. It is 0.5" larger in both diameter and length.

Exactly. Just go with the factory recommended filter and concentrate on the important things. Like what's on TV tonight.

2014 dart is probably out of warranty, so that is not an issue.
As for the "problem", some would like a little more oil capacity as well as a little more filter area, Neither of which are bad things if you are wanting to extend OCI, or just want to have a little extra.
If the filter spec's are the same (gasket, bypass pressure, has a ADV built in (or not)) I see no reason not to use a larger filter if it will fit and you choose to do so.
I have a few Bosch Distance Plus D3422 filters (PH3600 size) to use on the Scion once done with the CQ 84145 filters (OEM PH4386 size).
I would use a PH8A if it would fit (but gasket area is a bit too big, ~72 mm outer diameter, and oil filter mount is 70 mm).

My original statement on warranty was nothing to do with the vehicle warranty as even using a properly cataloged aftermarket non MOPAR filter, they would defer you to the filter maker if oil filter failure was a suspect cause.

My original point is that in the rare event of a failed filter, the filter maker has an out for filing warranty claim for liability against them if you use a filter that they do not catalog or recommend as is the case many time when playing the oversize game.

I could care less at a personal level what people do playing engineer for the placebo affect of going over size. I just want to see the proven data for a normal daily driver that a supposed oversize filter brings? Not what people "feel".

ditto. ditto to all of it. ditto to every salient point made here.

oversized filters are a fools errand. No proven benefit; not one shred of data, despite all the "theory".

The risk is real, although admittedly very remote. Going off the reservation places the burden of proof upon the user instead of the maker. Choose a filter that's not approved for your application and it's now YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to convince a judge/jury/arbiter that your selection was sound. This approach allows the maker to delay our outright deny their warranty coverage. Read and understand the MM act.

Zero benefit does not outweigh remote risk.
