Ok, going by what part numbers I was given in another thread, here are the part numbers for Honda, to replace the lil 3593A.

PH3807 is L24458 OD=3.1 H=3.9
PH2849 is L20073 OD=2.98 H=4.75

"Stock" 3593A is OD=3.15 H=2.95

So the 2 easy-to-find Purolator options (that I'm looking for, longer), are 1 inch and 1 3/4 inch longer respectivly. That should make reaching a bit easier, and everyone wants a bit oversized for capacity.

The other size mentioned, PH3985 (L14619) OD=3.69 H=3.75 Kinda stubby, maybe good for some applications...I have a CR-V.

I'll probally go for the L24458.
Thanks.

It will fit if you can find it. Do a search there are some post stating that filter has been discontinued. Good luck! Post if you find it because I'm looking for it too for a Honda application.

Wix still carries it. I'd wager that Baldwing/Hasting might have that size still. Anyone have an x-reference catalogue?
Does anyone know the specs for the K&N HP-1006?

Purolater, Fram, and other brands won't have that extremely slow selling PN.

The mentioned PN's are also an oversized options for Subarus/Mazdas/Nissans/Kia/Hyundai/Acura...........

"The gasket is too big on the 20073 for a Honda, it will leak."

Which engine did YOU have it leak on? What brand did you test?

I find that some years/engines will leak with the 51626 or 51347 sized filters.
But, surprisingly many don't. Beside the engine, another variable is the filter MFG. I find that the cheaper ones will leak(thinner gasket, different cut) while the better brands don't.

And easy way to test the gasket is to remove it from the new oversized filter. Then, line it up with the oil filter mount/boss on the engine. If there is excessive gasket overhang, then it 'could' leak. Many engines have plenty of mount room for larger gaskets.
You also want to make sure that the 'filter mount' on the engine doesn't impede flow to the filter. The oil filter's holes probably won't like restriction from the I.D. mount surface. This can be verified by multilating a filter. Cut the baseplate off and screw the filterless baseplate on to the engine to see how the filter's holes line up with the mount.

There is more to oversizing a filter then one filter manufacturer's claimed gasket size.

It was a 98 Civic EX. I am gonna try a Wix 51347 on the next oil change to see if it works.

I found that out today while looking at them, kinda big.

Could not find the L24458, it's superceded by the 3593A. So far I'm sticking with the TG 3593A. Open to suggestions, maybe Wix or NAPA? It's not a big deal, but I'm planning on doing a lot of miles on the CR-V and it's sort of a large vehicle for that engine.

Wix 51344
Baldwin B161-S
Same as L24458
I run the B161-S on a Kia Sedona 3.5 V6 picked up a couple of Wix at Bumper to Bumper and will use for my next OCI

I looked atthe Wix web page and found a few dealer nearby. I'm gonna get the 51344 and since I have no Audi filters here at home, a few of the 51191 too. Wix are darn good, right?

The 24458 has been discontinued for a while now, but if you look hard they can still be found. At my local PepBoys....they pulled all the Proline (Purolator) oil filters off the shelf.

I asked an employee what happened to Proline, he said they were using all Proline air/oil filter for fleet sales....but he was able to get the last 7 Proline 24458 that were pulled off the shelf from the backroom.

They cost only $2.49

I use the Napa/carquest filters made by wix. IMO, they are darn good.
But, they aren't cheap like the $2.50 proline or $3 purolators that were discontinued.

audi, i did a write up a while ago on this size of filter, and even went out and bought a dozen or so filters of varying brands on this size and cut them open to get pictures of the insides. i published this on here but hardly anyone was interested, so i took the pictures down and forgot about it.

if you are really interested, i could send you the filters i cut open, or just take pictures of them. i have everything from fram to wix and everything inbetween.

Ok, got the WIX 51344. It's pretty big. The only problem is the price, $7. I'll use it this winter because of the quality ADBV, but I'm not into the $7 filter when I can get ST for $2. Maybe next winter when I go back to Mobil 1 on the Honda, but for the 3 month/6k ocis with Havoline Synth in mild temps, I just don't see a reason for the $7 WIX right now. I also got a WIX for the Audi, $7.50 is not bad for that car.

The Wix 51344 has been standard issue for years.

The Wix 51356 is the 'new' smaller filter.

The Wix 51356 = Honda 15400-PLM-A01 (Fram or Filtech Inc.)

Honda now uses this filter in most all applications even where the original filter was the FAT boy (Wix 51344 equiv)

When I have let the dealer change the oil on my 90 Accord which does call for the size of the Wix 51344, they replace with 15400-PLM-A01 which as I mentioned = Wix 51356

Wix filters are now very expensive for what reasons I do not know. For the cost of one Wix filter I can buy two AC/Delco filters.
Wix air filters seem to be even MORE expensive, again don't see how or why they are 2x price.

I went to Advanced Auto today and picked up the Purolator Premium Plus L20073 for my '02 Nissan Spec V. I think it'll fit very well and put my oil capacity close to six quarts. The only thing is the pressure relief is 12-15 vs. 14-18 for the PPP L14610. Hmmmm...

Thanks for starting the thread Audi.

You get what you pay for. If the filter is too expensive at your local store, then shop at another store or online like fleetfilter.com, filter1.com, or ebay.....
