Oversize Kohler Oil Filter

I have a briggs and stratton v-twin that will take the Motorcraft FL-400s filter.

What oversize filter fits on a Kohler 23HP v-twin zero turn mower?

Used search, came up with nothing.

Cross reference the thread size & OD seal dia. & bypass pressure. You can get specs at the NAPA site for the current filterspec & see what comes close.

FL400S (or brand name of your choice) is what you need. Funny you should ask! I'm draining the oil and about to swap out the factory filter on my new Cub Z-Force as we speak. It's got the 20hp Kohler Courage Pro twin. Same dimensions as your 23hp. Mine came from the factory with the longer yellow Kohler filter. I'm putting a Supertech ST3600 that I had on hand.

Being a good BITOG'er I have several filters that will still work!

Come to think of it, the FL-400s filter fits our 2008 Ford Edge engine too.

I have some black NAPA and Amsoil filters I can use. Whould look better than the white filter.

It fit perfectly. Something bigger like a PH8A would be too big in diameter and hit the engine mounting pan. Kind of a messy oil change. If you're not careful, oil will run all over the pan the engine is mounted to, drip down the holes and all over your nice expensive drive and PTO belt. I planned ahead with some rags so it wasn't bad.

FL400S; PH3600/3614 (or their SuperTech equivalents); Puro L10241, etc.., will all work.

One real advantage is the longer filters are easier to get at when it's time to change it, next time!!

NOPE! The Purolator number for the longer filter is a L20195, or PL20195 if you want the Pure One in gritty mustard colored paint. This same filter fits my SAAB 9-5.

I cut open the factory (oversized) Kohler filter after the initial OCI on my Courage Pro 20 twin. It's a decent filter, nothing special. Consistant looking media cartridge. Simple 'clicker' bypass. The can/outer shell is very thin. I blew through it with a few rotations of my cutter. At 5.5hrs there was a tiny bit-o glitter in there. This filter has nothing that would make me concerned about replacing it with a Supertech 3600 like I did. It's got 2qts of Delo 15w40 in the sump as well. It was on sale at Wally!

How come you don't run a castrol 10w30 during break-in?

Not to say Castrol 10w30 isn't a fine oil, but I prefer oil specific to small air cooled engines, or heavy-duty/diesel rated engine oils for OPE.
