I have a Toyota with a 2AZFE engine. From what I've seen there is enough space for a larger filter within reason. I've seen Bud_One put a 3600 where a 4967 is recommended. I know that the 4967 and 4386 fit on my engine, but is there anything bigger and will a 3600 fit?

Where is the filter mounted on that engine? If it's on top, or sideways, it's fine. But if the filter is at the bottom like on the ZZ engines, then it's not a good idea since bottoming out could destroy the filter and your engine too.

I'm not familiar with the 2AZ, so I can't say if a 3600 will fit. But there is also the 3614 (shorter than a 3600, about the same length as a 4386, but fatter)

Funny, I had read the same thread and had the same question for my wife's Scion.
I read many threads about it and really did not see many options. The 3600 should fit (has a little larger diameter as well as length).
I had found a much longer Baldwin and Wix (1" longer) than the 4386, but is a generator filter with no filtration specs listed.

Mounted on the bottom so yeah that problem could occur. I'd have to measure clearance to make sure it is safe. I'll have to compare them when I go to the store to make sure.

Found it, a Baldwin B7238 (also Wix 57398, Fram PH10027). Identical in size, just a little longer (about an inch). Wix site lists no Beta ratio for it though. It is also listed as a cellulose media, not an enhanced cellulose media. I personally would not use it.

The Fram 3600 (Wix 51516) is a little over an inch longer than the 4386, but has a larger gasket diameter (OD 2.734, ID 2.430). The 4386 is OD 2.475, ID 2.173. The 4386 gasket will almost fit inside the 3600 gasket.
I have read several that have interchanged the filters without issues on several Toyota engines (not sure if I have specifically seen anyone do it on a 2AZFE).

Need to measure the mounting surface to be positive it will fit, but probably very likely it works. I still have a while till I need another filter (I still have 4 Wix made Car Quest Blue filters to use first).
Next change I will measure my mounting surface.
It would be nice if the 3600 fits though, I could see myself using a XG3600 for 15,000 miles (3 oil drains) with no problems.

edit: no idea on your vehicle, but I know on my Scion I have the room for extra length with no clearance issues.

I have enough filters as well. Fram is good bc it gives the exact specs to compare different filter diameters. Hopefully someone has used a 3600 on the 2AZFE. I'll search and check. I just think with the larger gasket, it will be closer to the edge of the mounting surface, which could cause issues. The 4386 and 4967 also have a 14 psi bypass setting where the 3600 etc have 12psi.

yeah, the Wix site also gives good specs to compare sizes and such.

I think the 3600 is one of those that probably fits and works, but is not an exact replacement. The Wix site shows both filters (PH3600/Wix 51515 and PH4386/Wix 57145) as having a bypass of 8-11 PSI, so no difference with the Wix on the bypass settings. No idea if 2 psi bypass difference really is an issue on the Fram side.

Yeah, that is the problem, the larger Fram PH10027 that is identical diameter and gasket size, just 1.2" longer, is also not available in Tough Guard/Ultra either.

Since we have the same engine I guess there won't be clearance issues. I'd like to get a few quick drain intervals with a larger filter to clean out the engine since I feel it was neglected prior to my ownership. So I don't think I need a tg/xg. Thanks for suggesting the 10027. Might just use it when I'm done with my current stash
