This is not of great importance yet, mainly cause Im sitting in Iraq and cant drive for another 10 months. BUT, I was wondering if anyone knows of an oversize filter for the 4.6L Ford. I did a search and came up with nothing. Can anyone help?

The only oversize available is a wierd one..for gensets andskid steers and the like, not available at any normal auto parts stores because it's not specified for any cars!

If you really want the Baldwin filter number for it, there was a thread about it in here I ought to be able to find pretty easily because I posted in it.

It amazes me that genius engineers would not just use a filter that they already have instead of creating a new one. Oh well, I though of using a Canton oil filter, its 6 inches long and might hold more oil than the short 820. But $100 bucks is kinda steep.

Why does anyone want an oversized filter? Increased oil capacity. A bigger oil pan is $300-400, depending on where you buy it. Having it installed is even more money. Its easier to find a filter that will hold more oil. Im not doubting the 820 is a fine filter, I just want more oil in my engine.

Wix 51087 or Purolator L30328 are oversize options. Bypass is a *little* stiffer, but should not be a big deal. (19-20 vs. 15-18. I'm somewhat dubious as to how accurate these things are anyway...)

I had assumed that you wanted a larger filter to allow for a larger filter element (more filter to filter out the same amount of solids).

Have you considered a dual remote filter? If you run 2 FL-1A filters in place of the FL820s, this will increase your volume by 1.5 quarts.

Medic: You know, I hadnt considered that. Do remotes drop oil pressure at all? Ive read that these engines have high oil pressure, around 80psi when they are revved up. Would there be any adverse affects brought on by remoting?

You'll have to change two filters instead of one.

As long as you can mount them near the stock height ..fine. If you have to mount them too high, they will drain forward and the lines will drain backwards. You may get startup noise. Just leave plenty of slack in the lines and mount as near to stock height as possible.
