Overfilled Auto Tranny

Have an 06' Saab 9-3 SS V6 with the Aisin-Warner 6 speed.

Shop overfilled by 3.5 quarts. A few days after while on a road trip I noticed it hunt around for a gear when doing a hard downshift. All other shifting was fine and normal.

So while on my business trip I stopped by a Saab dealer and they informed me it was overfilled and drained 3.5 quarts out. The fluid was also brown and a little burnt.

After draining the excess fluid the car shifts just fine as it did before.

So, my question is do I do any damage and should I drain and refill again (the proper way) or just leave it. The Saab dealer tech said it's probably just fine and to just leave it.

We drained and overfilled. Used the incorrect way of filling and checking the level obviously. Didn't use a flush machine or anything like that.

There's really no way of knowing if it did any damage.

Time will tell.

3.5 quarts overfilled?? Stay far away from that shop and hope you did no damage...Overfilling causes foaming which is bad real bad, have the oil and filter done correctly and hope that helps save that transmission,,, Good luck those Saabs run great and for a long time if cared for.. They are not cheap to buy or fix...

I'd want some sort of refund. At least the extra 3.5 quarts and the bill you paid for having it fixed.

I would at least bring it to the shops attention of what they did so they can know for the future.

Well re. what was done is in the past. And it's partly my fault. I know the mechanic and we read the WIS, just read it wrong...

What I meant to do was measure what came out, then you can't overfill unless it was already overfilled (which might be the case too).

Its nice that you know the mechanic.. Will "knowing him" get you a free transmission repair?
