Went to NAPA this morning to take advantage of the NAPA platinum oil filter "instant rebate" of $5.00 making the filter $7.49 plus tax out the door. I have had previous bad experiences with NAPA sales which I have shared on BITOG, so I didn't hold my breath. Although the salesperson did not know how to key in the rebate, she persevered and I purchased 4 for this price. She also threw in a gold oil filter for my 20 minute wait in trying to figure out how to key it in, so I ended up with five filters (4 platinum, 1 gold) for about $30 plus tax. I thought this was great customer service and wanted to share. The only negative was she told me to run synthetic oil with this oil filter as it may cause my "check oil sensor" to fail. I just smiled and said I would be sure to.

Failed check oil sensor? Oh no!

Good example of someone talking out of their exit sphincter.

IME NAPA customer service varies quite a bit with location; glad this one worked out...nice score.

Check oil sensor failing from conventional oil in a Napa Platinum oil filter!? I can't imagine the horrible things that would happen by running synthetic in a Napa Silver filter! Might just blow up the whole engine!

Lol

Last time I went to napa the guy behind the counter had trouble finding a transmission filter for my van, he told me to go get the old one and bring it in for comparison. I said yeah sure thing, ill be right back, went over to AAP across the street and got what I was looking for.

That's because they are franchised and only a few are corporately owned? at least around me, that would make sense to me.

There is no formal training, and if there was there is no way an independent store will send all their new hires to Atlanta GA for a 2 or 3 day stay.

Frustrating when you go to parts stores, and know more than the person behind the counter. The other day I went and asked if he could get mobil 1 0w40 in 4.4 litres jugs and he proceeded to tell me its on the shelf....I go to the shelf and it was delvac.....I said no I wanted euro spec oil, and he insisted that is the only 0w40 that mobil carries. I politely told him no its not but he said that I must be getting it mixed up with another oil...making it seem like I donnt know what I am talking about. So I walked over to the shelf and grabbed the quart bottle and said, so is there anyone that you can contact to get me this in jugs? He looked at it all miffed and said oh, I must have been thinking about another oil.

Great to hear that the lady went out of her way to give you good customer service. The only problem with my local NAPA is they seem to be disorganized in the back of the store. On more than one occasion it takes them a while to find an item.

I typically find that NAPA staff are at least as knowledgeable as staff at any Autozone, O'Reilly, CarQuest, or AAP. But, honestly, automotive, home improvement, or pretty well anywhere else, these days I don't expect a sales clerk to know much about their product or how it is used.

how much do you guys really expect them to know when they are getting paid 8.50/hr(new hire). it's like a gas station I saw the other day "new hire pay now 9/hr). wow stop the press...

Where in Virginia is the sale going on? My local NAPA stores in Hampton Roads is not running the filter rebate.

Also, do you think the clerk may have been somehow referring to the oil change interval indicator and got her thoughts confused? I agree that most (not all) parts clerks at AA, AZ, O'Reilys, Pep Boys, Carquest and NAPA know less about cars than my dog.

I agree, it's a low paying job that you shouldnt expect them to know much about. However, if they want to get ahead in their business they should go about with an open mind, and be willing to learn about the products they sell. If you dont want to learn about things relating to automotive maybe you should go work at a gas station.. it is your job to have some level of familiarity of what you are selling.. and to not spout nonsense like, only use synthetic oil with this filter.

Is that nation wide or just Virginia ?

Do you have to buy oil with it ?

No oil purchase needed though the NAPA syn is $3.49 per qt. I purchased 20 qts of that as well. See tenderloin's post in the sales section. There is a link to the flyer. It runs thru the end of the month.

My NAPA shut down a few months ago. They were usually pretty well stocked and could get anything else usually next day, went. Uh the NAPA the next town over to see if the had LM products. No luck, and the counter guy didn't think they could get the motor oil saver I was looking for. Also they didn't have any napa synthetic 5w30 in stock for the sale price. Meh.

Miss my NAPA quite a bit now.

Yes, independent owned NAPA. AAP and AZ across the street with newer stores probably did them in. Small town, so only so much business to go around...
