Ours do. We adopted a 2 yr old german sheppard last year. Took a few days but everyone gets along now.Why can't dogs and cats get along?
This^If you want an outdoor cat, call your local animal shelter and ask if they have any barn cats. These are usually feral and un-adoptable unless you let them live outside.
They are also free of charge, no adoption fee, most of the time, and come fixed and immunized...
A friend of mine has 400 acres and 17 barn cats...
If you have a garage, a cat door is a very good idea. It offers your cat a safe place from the rain, the brutal Florida sun and all kinds of predators like coyotes, bobcats, hawks, dogs and even other cats. It will get fleas so be prepared for that expense. My family has had everything from barnyard cats to exotic breeds. They can be fun and are much less work than a dog.I fed mine in the garage, installed a kitty door so they had a safe haven. vermin non existant now
Please do NOT let the cats roam off your property. Not only can it result in the cat being attacked by other and wild animals butWe are looking to get an outdoor cat. Do any of you have outdoor cats? Looking for tips / advice on care. We would likely start with a kitten around 10 or so weeks old and get him/her accustomed to outdoor living. Of course spray/neuter would be planned at the appropriate time. My main questions are (for those who own outdoor cats), do they poop all over your yard or do they go in one spot, and are fleas an issue even with flea meds. TIA.
Exactly. When I find them on my property I trap them, if the cat is tagged I contact the owners and tell them they have their one chance to respect my property. If the cat is found on my property again, it will get put down.Consider your neighbors. Your neighbors aren't going to like cats hanging around.
I suppose PETA is not on your annual charitable contribution list, eh?Exactly. When I find them on my property I trap them, if the cat is tagged I contact the owners and tell them they have their one chance to respect my property. If the cat is found on my property again, it will get put down.
What an ass.Exactly. When I find them on my property I trap them, if the cat is tagged I contact the owners and tell them they have their one chance to respect my property. If the cat is found on my property again, it will get put down.
We trained our kitten to use a pet door. When He was full grown he brought a jack rabbit inside and released it. Boy was that wild!!I've never had an inside or outside cat, it's always both...they have a cat door. My cat sometimes never seems to go outside, sometimes she never seems to come inside, but obviously she does and I don't notice. Cats are all about territory, and outside it's a big thing to sort out...they mark everywhere with their scent. If someone doesn't get the message, a more blatant deposit will be left.
