So, since we can't get Pennzoil Ultra in Canada, and I was interested in trying the Euro 5w-40, I decided to order from Amazon.

The crazy part was, that even with the like $60.00 in shipping and $20.00 in duty, it was still cheaper than getting it brought in locally through an independent

What are Amazon's typical shipping times like? I chose regular shipping. Anybody (from Canada) order anything from the US from Amazon? What was the turnaround?

I can't answer your question.

However, I do have a Amazon Prime membership so I get free shipping on selected items.
I recently ordered new Pads and Rotors for my 2002 Ford Taurus. They shipped them to my door FOR FREE. The package was probably 40 lbs.

Also, when I order parts off of Amazon I cross check their reference #'s with the Manufacturer to make sure they are actually what I need for my application.
Yet so far I have had no issues.

I have no idea how International orders work. Sorry about that.

If your part of Amazon prime , amazon student , amazon mom , you will get "PRIME eligibale " orders shipped with 2-3 day delivery for free , regardless of weight. Some of these items are not from amazon , but is backed by amazon in case soemthing goes wrong.

Last month they shipped a 150 lb package of computer desk for free to my door.

If its not prime , the shipping is based COMPLETLY up to the seller. it could be from overseas , shipped fast, slow , processed fast/slow. cost not much to expensive.

It really varies by product. Most stuff ships within a day or two, unless you pay for expedited shipping.

Last time I ordered a case of PU 5w-40 from them (with free shipping), it took them a week to actually ship it, but then the package arrived the next day.

OP is in Canada. I don't think Prime membership covers free shipping to Canada.

I've ordered numerous items from Amazon.com and had them shipped to my P.O. Box in Port Huron. Shipping charges into Canada and duty are ridiculous. With that being said, normally my product arrives in 3-4 days depending on what the item is.

From the item description:

In Stock.
Ships from and sold by Amazon.com.

I always buy items from Amazon, even if an Amazon merchant has it for a little less. (exclusion is if it's "fulfilled by Amazon", but that tends to have very long processing times)

Why? Because of the super-saver shipping. If I need something quickly, I'll buy it elsewhere and eat the shipping cost or local taxes.

I use Amazon for most of my online shopping, Ive had items shipped from United Kingdom (took a couple of weeks to get here )with no problem, within US items arrive quick.

How is it going to be shipped - who's the shipper? Normally, it works off their own schedule. Does it have tracking?

I live in Hawaii and Amazon shipped my case of Mag1 six quarts oil within a week through UPS for free. They gave me two weeks initially. They often under promise and over deliver on shipping. I hope you experience that to for this international order.

Yes it has tracking, shipper isn't listed, it was just "standard shipping".

If the OP is close enough to the border, this sounds like a great idea! Why not take advantage of the best of both countries when you can?

I am at least 4hrs from the border.

Most of the times I think that synthetic oils such as M1, PU ... at more than $5/qt is over-priced, even for M1 0W40 or PU Euro 5W40 ... Now seeing that you pay full price for PU Euro 5W40 and have to pay $80 for shipping and duty fees for 2 cases of 12 quarts total(more than $12/qt), I think that we are spoiled.

To bring it in (locally) was almost $14/quart, and I had to buy a skid, LOL!

If it will make you feel a little better, synthetic oil in European countries is usually more than $20 a liter.

Last year I bough 2 M1 oil changes, M1 0W40 and M1 cartridge oil filter for E430, for $60 plus tax from Pep Boys. Regular price of M1 cartridge filter was more than $12, but I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it, so the cost per quart M1 0W40 was $5 which is a little over $1 less than WM.

For a while I thought that I didn't do so well with the price, it was one of most expensive oil I paid for a long time. Now I saw what you paid for PU 5W40, I think $5/qt for M1 0W40 is fair price.

Some years I did very well in hoarding oil, many times I got synthetic for less than $1/qt after rebate(s), a couple times I got Valvoline Synpower for less than $0/qt. Yeah, less than zero after stacked 2 rebates from Kragen(bought out by O'Reilly) and Valvoline.
