I recently purchased a 2010 Harley Davidson Dyna SuperGlide Custon with the 96 CI V-Twin Motor. What is anybodys opinion of the Screaming Eagle Syn-3 Oil? Thinking about using it at my next change?.....
It may be over priced, but I guess it gives you all the motor needs. Harley says to change it out every 5k miles, and I have never heard of any documented account of motor failure that was directly caused by using it.And you can get it at any dealer. Try to find Amsoil, or Redline on a Sunday, even Mobil 1 v-twin can be tough to find.,,
All new Harley's come with the Syn3 oil in them from the factory and it's overpriced. I ran Amsoil 20w-50 (MCV) in engine and Primary and the 75w-110 Gear Oil in the transmission on 08 Road King and will run same stuff in my new 2011 EG with 103 engine. Although, thinking of trying Schaffers 9000 or 7000 racing oil in the bike..

Or it could be that Harley actually is using Syn3 as factory fill but not publicizing it. My 2009 manual says that regular Harley 20w50 was the factory fill. In the catalog, only the CVO models are listed as coming from the factory with Syn3.
There's a used oil analysis on this board somewhere of the conventional HD 360 20W50 at 5K OCI and it held up quite well. Just sayin'.
Some are using the Valvoline VR1 20W50 and it also holds up quite well.
Yes, Syn3 is "OK" and will certainly give you good service but for that money you can easily get better oil. Personally if I were to spend that $$$ I would get the Mobil 1 VTwin or the Amsoil MCV 20W-50
Like everyone else said SYN3 is OK, but for the money nothing to write home about.
When you do your first oil change depending on what you use, do the primary, transmission and engine all at once. Id recommend a gear oil in the transmission and after the transmission and primary change you will notice its easier to find neutral, and better and quiter shifting after dropping the factory swill.

My HD Dealer services the bike for free at 1K miles. I am at 800 mi now, & thinking of having them put in the Syn-3 at the 1st service.....
All the 2011 touring-model bikes, which are made in York, PA, have Syn3 as factory fill in them. I asked the question during my visit to the plant. Unless, of course, the guy and gal giving the answers didn't know what they were talking about...My owners manual says factory fill is Syn3...
As stated, Syn3 is just an oil that will do the job. It is not at all worth the price, but you won't go wrong with it either. Just use it in the engine only - forget the 3-hole deal.

Something new for 2011? My 2009 manual doesn't say anything about Syn3 and I'm pretty sure it was factory fill in 09 and 10 for CVO bikes only.

What page is that on? I was curios as to what goes in the 103s and was told by the dealer that only the CVOs got the Syn3 treatment. My book was silent on this issue.

That is nothing but pure marketing by Amsoil, I actually have read about cases where Amsoil has ruined Harley Motors by loosing viscosity in V-twin Forums! I would never touch the stuff.....
