Opinions On HM Oil

If you don't want to change your routine, go with the Pennzoil High Mileage and the Motorcraft filter you're using now at your current interval. Pennzoil High Mileage is a well respected, though not talked about as often, high mileage oil. According to those who've called SOPUS tech support, it is a conventional based oil.

DEFY is a syn blend, but it doesn't state that on the bottle. Same advice as the Pennzoil High Mileage, stick with your current filter and interval.

+1 on where is it leaking from and how much over the OCI. I had a Ford 4.0 SOHC that developed a leak from the front crank seal that wasn't bad but annoyed me enough that I had it fixed. Cost was $150 at the dealer. I think Ford V6 engines in trucks are easy to work on, so may not be as expensive as you might think.

I'm not really a Mobil fanboy but for 10k OCI's the Mobil 1 High Mileage is probably the best choice.

I'd probably opt for Maxlife and a little shorter interval if it were mine, Maxlife is wonderful stuff!

QS Defy does not include seal swellers to prevent leaking and additives to lesson oil burning , so not a true High Mileage oil like Pennzoil High Mileage or Valvoline MaxLife .

I would say it's fair to assume Pennzoil high mileage has some synthetic base oils in the mix, maybe some GTL?


I looked at each individual bottle of oil in that chart and it seems that Pennzoil High Mileage and Quaker State Defy have the most Boron, Moly, and Calcium. Would QS DEFY also be a choice to consider?

I understand that a good High Mileage oil will contain roughly double the seal conditioners of a normal API oil, so they all have conditioners in them. I don't like to call them seal swellers since that gives High Mileage oils a bad name and they don't work that way.

I 'think' Maxlife reduced/stopped a seal leak on my car since it was used 2 OCIs ago and now whatever was seeping is no longer making the bottom of my engine look like I spray it with oil. And I think my consumption slowed down some too.

Right off the website: The active seal-recovery agents in Quaker State Defy help restore pliability and volume so seals can pack tightly and are less prone to drying, shrinking or cracking.

I am running it right now and happen to like it. I have tried Maxlife and Pennzoil High Mileage before trying this. I liked the Pennzoil High Mileage. The Maxlife in my engine was very noisy.

I liked defy too in my old ram. The hemi had a slight bottom end knock when cold(275000)which became diesel loud when I used AFE in it. I ran the AFE interval til spring then used defy 5w-20 and the bottom end knock was quiet no matter hot or cold.
I liked defy but I never see it on sale anymore,and I only buy sale oil now.
