Opinions on 2012 Mustang GT

[BISCUT]

Basically come Jan 1 my work life either gets a substancial boost in pay or I'm screwed!! That one I have to wait for!

Mean time I'm filling my head with dreams of a black/black 2012 Mustang GT premium package with 6 speed of course!

Any oprions on the drive train are much appreciated. I'm a keeper so barring an accident or a lemon I'd be looking at 10+ years.

It's very unfortunate, but that's what Ford gets for going cheap on the transmission.

If your potentially screwed because you don't get a pay boost Jan 1, why are you going to buy a new mustang? Or is this just hypothetical? Anywho, Ford teamed up with Getrag on the 6sp manual... it happened to be made in china and theyve had quite a few problems with them. It saddens me to say this but get the automatic.

That's a shame, indeed.

On a related note, supposedly the manual trans in the new ATS 2.0T isn't great either.

As it is, manual transmissions are a pretty rare occurrence these days. And then on top of that, the ones that are available aren't any good.

If I were to get a Mustang, I'd be sure to get it with the Track Package which includes:

3.73 Gears
Boss Radiator
Boss Oil Cooler
Boss Torsen Diff
Brembo Brakes\Performance Pads

All of these upgrades done separately would amount to much more than the cost of the upgrade and IMO is definitely worth it even if you dont plan to track the car on the weekends. If you opt for the automatic, this package is not available. However, you can still get the brembo brake package which IMO is a worthwhile upgrade.

I'm torn between the Dodge Challenger RT & the Mustang GT! I luv & test drove them both! I have to admitt the Challenger has more everyday driver/passenger/trunk usable space! At 47 years old Its not all about the pure speed amymore! LOL

Every 6-speed GT I`ve driven crunches the 1st to 2nd gear shift,whereas the 5 speed doesn`t.

Saginaw,Muncie,New Process,Borg Warner,Tremec....all great name in manual transmissions past.Today its all about how cheap they can make them for.They show no pride in their production now (nobody does),and I show no pride in sending hard earned dollars to those producers.Buy an old 68 Mustang fastback,you will be far better off at trade in time.

The shifters are also this cheapy horrible plastic in them,unless I think it`s the GT500 that has the metal shifter,BUT still has the [censored] 6 speed transmission that grunches 2nd gear.

The GT500 has the Tremec TR-6060 which is a much much much better gearbox than the Getrag MT-82. FWIW there are companies offering a conversion kit to put a T56 or TR-6060 in the 5.0s.

I own a 2012 Mustang GT w/6M. It shifts as well or better than most of the previous 5speeds used in past Mustangs, and yes I have owned Mustang GT's with both T5 & TR-3650 trans, using both aftermarket and stock shifters.

It's not like the cars are cheap or low performance. How can they put in a lousy gearbox nowadays? They HAD to know it was inferior.

Everything after the t-10 was garbage - I owned many GT, most were garbage. Not a dream car - rather a nightmare. Id look to off-lease high end sports cars.

Strange, i work at a ford dealer and dont see this problem. Only problem I see is people think they have a race car and know how to drive it, thats when the trouble starts. Spirited driveng is ok, drive like a fool and it will break.

Jan 2 a new Chief will be in place...if it's my boy who I worked 1 1/2 year to get into place; life is good!!!

If not, a total Axx will get the position and I'll be off to never never land with horrible schedule and no overtime.

Some varied opinions on the 12 Munstag to be expected. I've had a few Iroc's and a Shelby in my youth (39 now) and always wanted a Mustang too. I like the body style.
