Hi Everyone, I need some opinions on oil filter changes using Amsoil ATM 10W30 and a Amsoil filter. I know Amsoil wants the filter changed every 6 months or 12,500 miles and oil changed 1yr/25,000 mi. I have a daily driver which gets run 36 miles a day, 18 both ways to work. I now have 6,000+ miles on the oil and added no make up oil, still on the full mark. The opinions I'm looking for: Would it be safe to run the full year without the filter change 1/2 way through ?

That's no matter what filter.
Max pushing from several sources.
Why not do every 8.3333, that would be better.
I have heard it been said, that it is not ADVISED to go beyone around 10,000 miles, however with a very good oil, and such... Maybe 12-15 TOPS but you are asking for it. IMO 12,000 is max but you could do 2 a year.... Best to be SLIGHTLY undre 10,000 MIles and change say 8.333 .

I just did this on my 2000 Buick. OCI was 11,400 iles, no filter change, Amsoil 10W30, SDF 29 filter.

UOA, as compared to previous ones where fitler was changed at 6000 miles showed no difference. Actually, as the engine was more broken in so to speak, 52,000 miles in lieu of 40,000 etc. the wear numbers were the best of all analysis. This was over a 7 month period. On another car I go one year on the filter but only 3000 miles, on another 9 months on the filter with 7500 miles.

You can leave the filter on IMO. Especially if a vertical mount filter, even better. Other then replenish some additives via the top off oil in a new fitler this change out is not worth the hassle IMO!

I think it depends on the filter size and filter area. Some of these small filters that new cars use have less than 80 sq in of filter area. Some of the large filters have 400 sq in of filter area. My guess is most filters would go 12-15 thousand without any problem but the small ones would be pushed at 8-10. Also dependent on how clean the engine is kept etc.

Yeah, I know, been there and done that.. I've gone much much much longer than that... but it is not advised... you have the potential for problems...

Can you expain??? I mean every time we change the oil in an engine that is runnning well we have a potential for problems, leave the plug out, loose filter, not put the oil in etc. etc.

So, what do yo mean?
