In addition to the Dunlop SP Sport 5000, I'm also looking into the BFGoodrich Advantage T/A. I REALLY like the Super Sport A/Ses on my MIL's 2004 Acura TL. They don't make those in my size I don't think. The Advantage T/A looks like it might provide a similar experience. Sam's has those for $82 apiece, minus $60 on a set of four (so basically, free installation package).

Anyone got these? They're fairly new tires, like in the last 6-8 months I think.

I had them, waaaay back in the day and I liked them a lot.

Hate the Dunlops SP 5000. Had them as OEM on my MPV. Switched to Yokohama Avid and I couldn't be happier.

I have these, I got them last fall. The design was new in spring of last year. I'm happy. Compared to the stock EL41's they are quieter with about the same traction in the dry, and better in the wet. I'm not sure they'll be much like the Super Sport A/S's, they're a long wearing touring tire so they're pretty hard not sticky.

I'd buy them again for taking my kids around, and long drives where the noise of a directional or sporty tire would be droning. But not for track day use.

What drew me to them was full depth groving and pretty deep siping. I'm annoyed that the BridgeStones were [for winter purposes] bald at 6/32 since their groving only goes 4/32 deep.

Thanks. I've heard a lot of positive comments on their handling and traction. I've read some iffy comments on the Dunlops. The price still intrigues me. The BFGs aren't real expensive either. Still much cheaper than the Michelin Primacy MXV4s, and with about the same life expectancy.

As a general blanket-statement I am a die-hard BF Goodrich fan. Every BFG tire I had/have has performed exceptionally well and I go out of my way to continue buying them for my vehicles.

BFGs all the way, dunlops are a pile of soiled diapers.
BFGs have rubber which stays soft like michelins (same rubber?)

Thanks guys. I owned a set of Radial T/As once, which had horrible wet traction. I was scared off of those for my truck, and bought the Firestone Indy 500s instead. I know Radial T/As from 10 years ago have absolutely nothing to do with the current state-of-the-art Advantage T/As, but I've been hesitant to go back nonetheless. But I think I really like these tires.

Definitely not the same rubber as Michelins. BFGs feel waxy to the touch, almost like a plastic. They are also much more prone to cracks than Michelins.

The last 3 set of BFGs I've owned have been trashed at 50-60K because of sidewall cracks. My current set of Michelins (X Radial LTs) have 115,000 miles and ride basically as smooth and quiet as day 1.

I have owned numerous sets of BFG's including 2 sets of Radial T/A's and have found all of them to be great tires for the money. Would not hesitate to buy another set.

just put these on my 2002 V6 Camry....they handle exceptionally well all around BUT THEY RIDE LIKE A ROCK!! I am used to V-rated tires, but these are downright uncomfortable unless on highway. Now I am stuck with them for a few years>

I just bought 2 used ones for my summer set-up. I hear nothing but good things about them. Two clean 8/32nds tires for $56, it's a no-brainer.

The BFG g-Force SS on our Astra are amazing. I hear their AT tires, "Long Trail" (iirc) are good too.

I'm psyched because I got 2 fresh 17" for $56. I'm putting together a set of summer smokers, so I want to spend minimal, but still get to try an interesting tire. I did the same w.Cooper CS4, no regrets.

http://bestusedtires.com is within my travel range so I don't have to pay shipping. Big selection...I almost felt guilty picking clean their inventory. I also got 2 nearly new Turanza Revo Z for $130. They are like a $175 tire in my size.

Paid $180 total for tires that would cost at least $500 to replace.

Those guys are on ebay too.

I hate I hate I hate I hate used tires. I buy new tires in sets of 4. Unfortunately had some issues that caused the 'spare' to be overworked and the spare in the trunk now is beginning to show 'threads'. The other 4 tires are new because 5 wasn't in the budget. Well, having a spare with threads showing isn't all that good. Going to toss a like-new used tire in the trunk as a spare soon(on my next weekend trip to that area). Thinking about budget more now since I enjoy getting away. Since its a spare only, I won't worry much. $150 for a new tire vs $50 for a like-new tire is $100 more for beer, or day trip away from the area.

I hate used tires too, but you can find some really good deals if you look and are not too picky. It helps to know something about tires too. There are a LOT of oem "take-offs" on the market that really bite.

At least here I can get the kind of tire I want with the side benefit of "auditioning" a nice new product like the Advantage for later reference.

Also, in this case I don't want new tires up front, I'm having my problems with throttle control because of my 300ft-lbs of torque and want to have a lil fun "learning".

I saw these on tirerack recently, and I was confused. Different sizes had different speed ratings: some were H, others T. Anyone know why?

I can make an educated guess.

Among the specifications vehicle manufacturers have for tires supplied to their vehicles is the speed rating - and even though it might not make sense for a given line of tires, the end result is that will be odd speed ratings, odd tread patterns, etc. to accommodate those specs.

That would apply to both the manufacturer supplying the tire to the assembly plants but also to other manufacturers who want to be sure to have a tire to properly fit a particular vehicle. Even though YOUR Nissuki Civry might not need a V rated tire, some tire manufacturers will make a tire that fits those speed rating specs just to be sure they do not miss out on a sale.

Oooh. I had been looking for a 215/65R16 to throw on a steelie for a spare to toss the donut. Couldnt find one under $100. Used tire it is!
I do wish that site would post last 4 of DOT. I would like to know how old the tire Im buying is. It may be years before I would need to use it.
