Never used OPE intentionally as a weapon. Sadly, I have on occasion shredded a few small wild rabbits hiding in the longer grass at camp. Now I walk through it to scare them away before I cut.

I generally use products designed for their designated purpose. I.e. rifles, shotguns etc. Gotta have the right tool for the job.

Wouldn't catch me running down a black bear with a push mower or grass trimmer. Nooooooo no nooooo. That would be a shelaylie waiting to happen...

Lol I'd actually pay to see that.

I have used a string trimmer on two dogs, and one grown man. Didn't actually contact the man, but it worked none the less.
A good friend just finished a court case involving a string trimmer followed by a Com Toro Zturn. Judge ruled it as self defense.
No doubt ope, while effective, is a far second choice the whats in the glove box. Sometimes It's all you have.
The incident involving the man and the string trimmer happened when I was about 14 years old.

On arboristsite there was a link to a news story where a guy cut through the front door with a saw of his annoying neighbor. Got charged with threatening with a deadly weapon or something like that...
Ever since my bear encounter in my woods I do look up more often when sawing, but I doubt a bear would ever attack a guy with a running saw?
Maybe I'll find some rotten birch to practice my highspeed plunge cuts!

One of the dogs that charged me was a 10+ year old pitbull boxer that had one eye, and was named Trouble. It took at least 5 seconds of high speed trimming to the mouth to turn his confidence into fear. I'm not so sure a girl brown bear would care about a saw. Think I would have to carry the 500s&w to cut trees down in those parts.
