Have had the car for 3 months. This is what OnStar says:
Hard Braking 102
Hard Acceleration 79
Late Night Driving 2.5%
Distance Driven 3729
*Average MPG 43.0
*Average MPH 23
*Speed Over 80 MPH 0.0%
*Idle Time 18:56:05

I love this thing.

Gee what is GM doing with the data of "Hard braking and hard acceleration?"

How about "late night driving?"

Is this going to be passed onto insurance carriers, like the SNAPSHOT device?

They all have a black box (even boat motors do). -
I'd rather see it on display than the dealer spring it on you with the claim denied ...

Passed on or sold?

2014 law - all have black box for NHTSA ...
For "big brother" OEM data acquisition? Plus & minus I suppose ...

I'm guessing the hard braking and hard acceleration are "# times" not percent? That must be some extremely hard braking if it's 102%. If it's "# times" what is the threshold to count as hard braking? ABS engagements, wheel lockups?

I'll have to remember not to buy anything newer than 2013 ever. Right now up to 2002 model year so I think I'm in good shape.

So much for that 2015 R1

I guess I'll just buy a turbo for my ole girl and call it good.

You guys worry too much. I feel sorry for you

Impressive MPGs for what I am assuming is LOTS of stop and go based on that avg speed of 23mph. Very impressive!

I'd like to know what constitutes "hard braking". We've had one of those transponder/telemetry units through our auto insurance co that plugs into the OBDII port of our Grand Caravan for a few years. We get a 10% discount for using it and you get further discounts if all is good. It's never been good. Always hard braking episodes or use of the vehicle outside the "safest" time of day.

Should of never super charged that mini van on pimp my ride - baby seats flip over into 15" subwoofers, right

Heck, maybe the Prius crowd competition for MPG could survive the surveillance ?

I think that really is only an average when it is actually moving. So not as good as it sounds. Its actuall mileage overall is 38.2 mpg. But that is very good bc my average trip length is about 8 miles.

The newer R1's are great bikes. I've ridden an M and a regular model on a roadrace track ( I haven't had an opportunity to try the base model). They both were great on track. A little down power compared to my '15 S1000RR, but they had a very easy handling feel to them. Yeah, their ECU's track all the same data my BMW does. But if you're really concerned, you can have your ECU flashed for more power (as I have) and so it doesn't retain potentially incriminating data after the bike is shut off.
