Wife bought a new Mazda 2 in May. To date it has just under 2500 miles. She's due for her 6 month change.
I hear good things about the Mazda 0W20 oil, which its spec'd for.
Is it too soon to dump the FF out? At her rate of driving the vehicle will only have about 5-6k miles per year on it.

+1 If Mazda specs 6 months, change it. Unless you are a brave one. In reality its fine for more.

Has your dealer sent you any coupons for service? If so use them. The late GF got a service coupon book every month after she purchased her CX-5. There was a Oil Change and tire rotation for $40 in every one. Plus it is a chance for them to look over your new vehicle, and for you to mention any issues for them to take care of.

I did my new 2 @ 1500 miles for what it's worth.

I am curious about the emphasis on 0W-20 for the engine (ZY-VE) when as far as I can tell there is nothing magical/special about it (compared to Mazda's other offerings). Just a hard working little 4 with a stupid air intake design.

Also, coupled with the fact that I am classified as severe service which shortens the OCI means I'll migrate to cheaper 5W-20 for warmer months when out of the warranty period.
