Only 2000 Miles. Why oil so dark? Pics attached.

Perfectly normal. You cannot judge oil based on colour. I could show you a sample of an additive package, and it would look darker than that.

thank you for prompt responses. looks like ill run it a little longer and take pics again. probably take pics around the 5k mark and see how much darker it gets.

The color isnt concerning...just make sure you watch the level at some point. What ever amount of MMO was added will be burned off, thats what happend to me at least.

So considering this is Mobil 1 Extended Performance and im NOT gonna get a used oil analysis on this current fill...the only things I can go by is

Time
Mileage
Color of Oil
Highway Miles or Stop and Go Miles

Knowing these factors and the pics i have attached. When would my next guesstimation for an oil change occur? I really enjoy this board. And i thought i knew alot? haha

no leaks in my car. and no oil burning off. i check the oil level often.

Color DOES matter, to a degree. If it were jet black after only 2k, I'd worry about poor ring sealing, or significant (not necessarily harmful) sludge. IMO, your oil is only somewhat dark - it looks fine to me.

Call back in another 5K, when you can't see the dipstick.

I also wonder about the Mystery Goo. Why? You're running a syn that will clean most anything without help. Save yourself the $ and buy yourself an ice cream cone instead!

Mine turned BLACK in 2k miles and used two quarts. I think this oil is very good at cleaning so it is probably cleaning out some varnish and/or sludge.

What's the point of running a fairly expensive oil then diluting it with MMO? You're going to end up wasting the oil because you shouldn't run MMO for the entire 10k OCI. SO you'll end up dumping the M1 well before its time is up

Mine is that dark in just over 300 miles...recently purchased 98 explorer now running ARX and Pennzoil Conventional to clean all that [censored] out.

i thought putting MMO with any oil assists in cleaning?
