I bought it new right off the truck. Was all nice smelling and shiney. Now it's just an old rattly Jeep. So far other than regular oil changes and filters it's had.

3 TPS sensors.
Original front brakes and rotors were replaced @11K with A-Zone cheapies that are still on it. Rear brakes are still original but getting thin.

4 sets of tires
4 sets of shocks.

3 fan belts.
Both idler pully's.
Rebuilt Alternator.
All hoses.
3 Radiators.
4 fan clutches.
2 AC compressors and Accumulators.
1 AC Condensor.
All 8 front control arm bushings.
2 bushings in that rod that centers the front axle.
3 new U-Joints in the front driveshaft.
Rear pinon seal.
Timing cover seal.
4 sets of Spark plugs.

In the last week the PS box has developed a pretty large leak too.

Note to self: Do NOT buy a Jeep...this thing is a rolling auto parts store.

HOLY MOLY! My 01 Sahara has 233,000km and has been one of the best trucks I've ever owned.Nothing major done just 1 rad ,brakes, battery, plugs, belts etc.Still looks and drives great.I've had notes on it at work from people coming in the parking lot giving me offers to buy it!My Cherokee just turned 300,000km and here again, great!Itake the XJ moose hunting every year and it gets a modest pounding and the TJ goes deer hunting to be used as a deer carcass pick-up.

You first leased the vehicle, then you purchased it?

You've really been making payments for 9 or 10 years on it already?

And you still have over a year to go?

How much money do you think you've spent on a vehicle that originally cost somewhere around $16,000?

The amount of money you've spent in repairs pales compared to what you've thrown away in interest.
When I bought it Jeeps were the hot item here. No dealers would even deal. It was full list price of $24K or walk. I couldn't afford the $500 month payment so I leased it for 66 months for about 1/2 that then when the lease was up I financed it which dropped the payments even more.

That's because the AMC designed engines are bulletproof. It's all the accessories and other things that tend to go bad. But even I ahve to admit thats quite alot of stuff, even for a jeep. Like I said, ours has 37,000 miles on it (99) and it looks like we will be putting it's third automatic transmission in it, because the rebuilt one that's in it is failing. We are on the 2nd rad, the clamps at the top of the rad rusted out, it's got a full aluminum rad now. The suspension is all aftermarket now, so can't complain about that.

Chris should look @ the bright side, he will not be plagued with corrosion issues (an older Jeep malady) I was driving my uncles 1977 CJ7 (about 20 years ago) and the entire clutch linkage fell out onto the road. The vehicle looked like the surface of mars underneath. Great vehicle other than being a rolling deathtrap.

Haven't made payments since the later 60's early 70's. Yes I have/do buy new cars. Yup have to fill out the paper work.

If interest was taxes folks would never buy a new car, but the're more than willing to make the bank money.

Well, Ok if you consider the transmission an accessory. I have always preferred to consider it part of the drivetrain.

Chris: Go buy a Toyota or Honda and stop the pain. This is a classic example of why the Asian car manufacturers have taken so much market share for the US automakers. Just remember every time you make a payment there is some UAW retiree sitting in Florida sucking on a pina colada making a ton on your hard earned money that you paid him to make you a piece of unreliable junk.

What a classy answer.

I love how the anti-Jeep come out of the woodwork.

I'll show this to my coworker with a 06 Tacoma with 60K. he has put

1 Power steering pump
2 High pressure Line
3 Shocks
4 tie rod ends
5 Steering coupler
6 1200$ brake job
7 Secret Recall for frame rot
8 Needs Rack bushings(assume the isolators for the rack attachment, Toy dealer wants 400$ to replace.

He is not sold on Toyota when his V6 gets 18 mpg highway, lower than his pals Hemi Rams and Silverados and his is stick too!

His parents bought it for him when he was in school but now that he is working he wants something newer next year. I told him to keep and drive it as a winter beater if he gets a new car.

What is with the American flag....Jeep is owned by the Italians and the UAW...who bought it from the Americans...who ran it bankrupt because of the UAW guy in Florida...after they got it from the Germans...who bought it from th Americans.

Your statement should read: " Because of Jeep most of us are driving Hondas or Toyotas"

Ok...YOU buy a Jeep.....

Dang! My WJ has 158k and the only thing I've ever had to do for major repairs was half shaft and wheel bearing replacements. In addition to the wheel bear and front half shafts I've only had to do brakes, tires and replaced the front drive shaft. And the routine oil changes, spark plugs every 20k, filters and one battery. Domestic vehicles aren't reliable?? I beg to differ...

My dad tried to "stop the pain" with a Civic Hybrid purchased brand new. He really likes the Accord the dealer gives him as a loaner car.

As for the Jeep, I can't believe it needed brakes after just 11K miles! I tear brakes up and I don't think I could trash a set in 11K miles if I tried. Most of the stuff on the repair list seems minor, there's just a lot of it. The leaks are normal...it wouldn't be a Jeep if it didn't leak something.
