"IF" an oil film never ruptured or became to thin, then FM would never come into play. If it did, then FM would give a first line, sort of a near miss defense and ZDDP would be the REAL defense.
Lets say I have two 5w30 synthetic oils, both believed to be G IV. Both are near identical in 40C, 100C cSt, TBN, Noack, and pour point. However, one has a HTHS of 3.2, ZDDP of 840, and a heavy FM package. The othere has a HTHS of 3.5, ZDDP of 1340, and no FM. What kind of, if any, wear differences should I expect between these two oils extended out to 100,000 miles and beyond? Does anyone know when FM were first used in oils?
