One flick turn signal

LKA, LDW, or any other acronyms to describe systems that keep idiots in their lanes while playing games. Probably mandatory on cars some day.

Had a Chevrolet Traverse with the factory towing package. There was a "Tow Mode" button in the dash which you could push when you were towing. It would change the transmission shifting pattern and also change the "lane changing" feature of the turn signals.

When not in tow mode, the signals would blink 3 times by moving the turn signal but not fully engaging it. In tow mode, the signals would blink 6 times. I guess GM felt that with a trailer behind the car, more flashing of the signals was safer.

The Pontiac ( Holden ) G8's do this.

It's apparently a feature that Americans are completely unaware of. Someone here wrote a review of a rental G8 complaining that whenever they tried to use one finger on the cruise control, the turn signal would flash a bit.

Well, yeah. The cruise control is designed to require two fingers, and a momentary touch on the stalk activates the lane change signal. That's how it works. Sheesh.

I maintained your same philosophy. Sometimes my kids (being new drivers) would remind me that I am suppose to signal when I changed lanes, but like you, if no one is around or even close to my car who cares.

About 3 months back I used this philosophy on the Interstate in the middle of no where. I just changed a lane because of poor pavement conditions in the one lane I was in. There were no cars in either lane and none noted any where. It was shortly later I noticed the flashing lights flying up behind me. Some trooper must have been a mile back and he sure noticed and pulled me over and jumped down my case real good (thankfully he just gave me a warning (along with the lecture)). Since then I do a better job now of using my signals most all of the time even if no one is around.

I hate this feature. Something the driver should control, that has been removed.

I give a single flash just before I cross the line, as I'm already in motion. I use it as an announcement, not asking for permission.

I like to think at night I'm less glary to those following.

This ranks up there with "AC must be on with Defroster" and "I lock your doors when you put the car in Drive" on my list of annoyances well-meaning marketers force engineers to implement.

The turn signal stalk on my Cherokee is bad. On damp or humid days, it will get stuck on either the left or right turn signal and won't stop.


Judging by what I see around here daily there must be a lot of vehicles with the same problem. Lots of broken, stuck turn signals.
