Once a year synthetic or 2X conventional?

Also consider the hassle factor of a second oil change whether you DIY or bring it to someone. Time is a real issue for a lot of people. As to engine longevity either choice will give you the same.

When you factor in the time/labor needed to do that extra oil change with mineral, synthetic wins, IMO.

If your engine gets a chance to warm up to operating temperature in the cool weather and your mileage is not a high number why not do once a year oil changes using a good synthetic.. Which oil and filter were you thinking of and what mileage were you thinking of doing and also what kind of driving and engine condition
Not all synthetics are created equal.. Years back synthetic oil was totally different now it's just a word, some oils that say Dino on the bottle are just as good thanks to a bunch of Lawyers that argued successfully over the Mobil Castrol case.

What kind of car? How many miles per month? Short trips? What kind of driving? IMO, anything that involves fewer oil changes is better, because I'd rather be doing anything else.

As long as I avoid winter changes I'm happy. Something else to consider is the waste savings. No jugs/boxes/spent oil filter in a land fill.

Without an annual mileage total, can't give a good answer to your question.

Example:

If your annual mileage is under 10k and mostly highway, synthetic 1x.

If your annual mileage is 30k then neither strategy.

My oil changes varies due to season, time, situations.
02 CR-V changed after 830 miles of short trip for 9 months and wanted to change before winter. No filter change.
05 Camry changed after 3,501 miles and 6 months and pre-winter.
08 Accord changed after 3,588 miles and 3 months and pre-winter.
04 MDX changed after 1,603 miles and 3 months and will not change again until he comes home from college 2k miles away. He'll rack up about 10k miles.

4 cars and 3 drivers.

It depends upon how the vehicle is driven. todays "conventional" oils aren't like the 1970s Conventional oils all compare todays syn oils to.

+1 it's all speculation until the OP lets us know the application and operation of the application.

2x conventional. Because I like doing my own maintenance.

If you pay someone to change the oil, then 1x synthetic.

Here in Canada I have been doing yearly synthetic oil changes for years now. Doing about 25 000 -30 0000km per year. Several UOA reports confirm engine is doing well. Now I can spent my time maintening the rest of the car...

The car in question is a 2012 Toyota corolla. I drive 10,000 to 12,000 miles a year. I've been using 0w20 castrol edge black bottle. 40 percent highway, some short trips mixed in. Factory warranty will be up soon.

Keep using it and change it once a year then.

With the above scenario.....I would do a once a year OCI....usung Mobil 1 EP, and a Fram Ultra filter.

Do what you are doing. It's fine
