I have a 5500 watt Onan generator in my toy hauler. It's coming up on its first oil change. In my climate I can use either 15w40 or SAE 30. Both are readily available to me. Any compelling reason to choose one over the other?

5w-40 synthetic?

If conventional, use SAE 30. If synthetic, use whatever you want.

Of those two - Id run the 15w40.

For my 7K's gassers, 8K diesels, Yamaha 3K, Honda 2000's - I run 0/5/10-40

I forget does the 5500 have a pressurized oil system or splash like the 4K?

I have over 400 hours on my 5500, all on 15w40. Coldest its been started was around 0*F and it fired right up.
It also has a pressurized oil system so don't forget the oil filter.

I run something w-40 in a number of things

I run straight 30 in nothing.
