OMG - My dad was using ARCO Graphite!

So a question - since my dad is running out of this oil what should he use next? The ARCO oil is rated SE-CC and I imagine that this engine was designed for lead based fuels and must have soft valve seats. Would RP straight 30W be appropriate or RP HPS? I was also thinking of sending a sample of the ARCO oil to the lab.

It would be interesting to see an analysis on Arco Graphite.
Valvoline VR1 10w30 or Brad Penn 5w30. RP HPS would probably be OK, but pricey.

The valve seats are a non-issue. Oil never comes in contact with valve seats. No matter what kind of oil you choose, it won't affect the valve seats. I wouldn't use a straight 30 in an engine operating in cold temps. I would use a 5w30 or 0w-30.
