Old stereo magazines

I may violate some rules here, mods delete if I am, I have an original first issue Emotiva USP-1 preamp with phono input and UPA2 two channel amplifier I would sell. We 'upgraded' our entertainment center and these pieces no longer fit into it. I am the original owner and each piece comes with their original boxes, remote, power cords, and manuals.

I was the same with mobile electronics mags, man seems like ages ago.
Do you remember Alma Gates, the retired school teacher who set a world spl record? It was a Ford Bronco and had I think something like 80k watts of power using kicker audio. It set a record over 170 dB.

I wasn't aware that Alma was a retired school teacher. But I remember the gates family. I remember I bought a used kicker component set from a local guy that competed for them that was down on his luck, and I was just trying to help him out by buying the set. Turns out the tweeters were blown. I reached out to a guy on the car audio forum who worked for a kicker, I think his handle was polecat, and he got me set up with a new component set. It was a wonderful time where the companies were small enough that they actually cared. Things were real and seemed to matter. Today everything is disposable and nothing matters.

Check out an article post on thedrive.com I think. Someone found the Bronco and is rebuilding it to it's competition days former glory. I like looking through the high end home audio magazines but wow I saw an $18k home audio receiver I was blown away.

I was equally into 2 channel home audio and car audio. In the early years it seemed subwoofers needed huge boxes to reach down into the 20hz range. I had two MTX blue thunder 10" subs but they took up 4 total cubic feet of air volume. They were pretty efficient, reaching down into the 20 hz range before unloading. I pushed them with a 160 watt amplifer.

Later years saw subs needing less and less air volume but needing more wattage to push them. I had a Pioneer flat 10" subwoofer in a .75 cu ft box that pounded relentlessly in a single cab truck and still dipped into the 20hz range.

I think I went through far more home audio components than car stuff. Every few months something new came out I had to have. New JBL speakers were first, not being good enough I bought a set of BIC V604 floor standing bipolar speakers. Then Definitive Technology came out with the BP8. I was about to buy those when a deal came up for their BP2002 powered speakers, each tower having a 12" powered sub in it. After getting them home I knew I bought way too much speaker for the space I had.

Currently I have a set of Madisound SR71 kit speakers I assembled about 15 years ago on stands powered by a Yamaha 501 integrated amplifer. The clarity and imaging is outstanding.

It is funny that when you are young and can hear, you can't afford the nice stuff. When you are old and deaf you can afford nice stuff but can't hear it that well. LOL.
