Found a Meijer bag in the back of my brothers new to him '98 Blazer. The PO threw in this old P1 along with an older Purolator air filter. It is safe to say they don't make them like this anymore..

I love the blue paint job.

I am hesitant to use the filter only because of its nostalgia. The filter gasket seems a little tough and dry rotted too so I think this would be best kept on my bookshelf with my other filters. He didn't want it and I wasn't going to let it get pitched.

Hello, They ain't that old.
This is an example of the inaugural PureOne graphics.
I'd bet the 'end cap glue' is banned today.
Love 'em then use 'em. Kira

Gasket Teflon infused? Those are some pretty radical change intervals on the back of that box.I guess they figured they could increase sales if they scared the customer into thinking all that stuff needed to be changed every year.

Yep, give it a nice buff and wax job and put it on the shelf for nostalgia.

Yea I used 2 of them on my old buick Lesabre 3800 Series II 3.8 v6

when I used the pureone that was in the blue can like that my oil pressure gauge at idle would nearly be in the red... then when i would rev the engine it would go to normal.

Or if I was at a red light, the oil pressure gauge was darn near in the red... then the light would turn green and soon as i hit the gas it went to normal.. so i took it off and put a A/C DELCO PF47 .. I still remember the size... with the a/c delco at start the oil pressure gauge would be perfect in the middle and would stay there at idle or driving speeds.

I feel that oil filter was not flow efficent... I remember when it happend someone was saying it was the oil pump however my granpa left me that car when he passed away and it only had 38K miles on it when I got it so I knew there was no problems and my grandpa worked at GM or 23 year and was a big A/C Delco guy... Even used A/C Delco spark plugs..

I drove that car till it got to 70K miles and got in a accident.... always using a/c delco pf 47 or pf 47E and a few times FRAM Extra guard and never had oil pump problem.

also I had 2 of them filters so I actually tried it a 2nd time ** I thought perhaps the filter I got was just defective or something so I gave it another try** GUESS what??
Did the same exact thing... and I think that was the time i put a fram extra guard in..
Other then that I always used A/C Delco oil filters in that car.

There is just somthing abotu OEM Filters...

also when you trouble shook oil filters.. most sites say this.. A/C Delco site says this

Engine Oil Filter
Part Concerns

Low oil pressure light on
External oil leak from the engine

Part Causes

Restricted filter
Failed internal bypass
Failed O-ring seal

yea I know.. they say to change air filter each 12 months.. I have had my air filter on for 2 years and each time i check the air filter its clean.. I can see light right threw it..

I even drop it on the cement to see if a bunch of dirt will come out.. ** OLD SCHOOL TRICK **
and a comes out but the filter is fine...

I might just change it for the heck of it.. However I do not drive much.. there is 20k miles on the air filter and they say to change air filter 12k to 15k miles..

Also I have a driveworks air filter.. thats all they had a AAP when I bought it and the cabin filter... both drive works.

anways.. do you guys think its safe?
Can a air filter look clean and you can hold up to light and see light perfect..
Is it still safe to use no matter how many miles?????

I see Purolator moved from TN to NC.

I got a blue puro just as I signed up here as they were transitioning to the current model and cut out the total grips.

David1, as long as the paper doesnt get wet and 'dry-rot' you just keep on using that filter until 25-50k miles have accumulated, unless, of course, you drive on dirt roads or beaches all day.

Be careful throwing your filter around. You can maybe tap it on a wooden table at the most. You definately dont want to crack, separate, or degrade it in any way.

As for the driveworks filter, i had been using puro classics for probably 150k miles then got a driveworks and it immediately sounded like a whirring or an alto whistle, like a mix of a turbo and a super charger.

I read on Purolators website not to use pureone filters on a motorcycle because the high efficiency may be too much for the oil pump. They say use the powersports filters. So there may be something to this oil pressure is low stuff mumbo jumbo. I don't understand it, but that isn't new.

Nonsense. I have seen a lot of people run the Puro classics in motorcycles. They work just fine!

Bullcorn.

Plenty of filters out there with no tears! But on this site, it looks like the MANY must hear about the tears of the FEW. Once I get my spreadsheet up and running we can compare!!

I would run it. That filter was made in the days when Puro's were the cats meow! If you don't want to run it, cut and post pics.

What is the consensus on Mann filters in general?
