While rummaging through my shed I found some quarts of Mobil 1 5w30, 10w30, and 10-40 probably from 2002. I wouldn't perform an oil change using these oils but should I keep one in the back of my Tahoe when it needs a quart between OCs? Is this when Mobil 1 was 100 percent synthetic? Then there was some formula change concerning the base stocks. All the bottles are tightly closed and not exposed to sun or heat and show no sediment at the bottom. Should I use it to top off? Thanks

I would use it for a complete oil change with no concern in a vehicle that meets the API spec (probably SJ or SL for that timeframe). Would work in all your vehicles except maybe the Subi.
I think Mobil (and most other manufacturers) gives a blanket 5 year shelf life in a sealed container.
While I have not used 15 year oil, I have used 10 year old oil. Seems there were some NOS oil VOA (20+ years?) that were just fine.

I found an ex-CQ AAP that still had oil from 4-5 years ago. Carquest, SynPower, MaxLife, etc. with the old logos. I would have used it.

It's certainly good for top offs, OPE or old beaters. I still use some old Pennzoil 20W-50 I got in the 90's for top offs - it's fine.

I bought 12 qts of SL rated Valvoline VR1 20w50 about a year ago from a drag racer who had switched to Brad Penn and I'm using it in my Harley. The bottles were extremely dusty from sitting on the shelf. No problems.

I'd use this old M1 without hesitation or second thoughts.
Oil in sealed containers doesn't go bad in any way for many years.
Blackstone VOAed some ancient quarts a few years ago and the oil seemed fine.

This is what I have deduced from some old posts on this site. Considering a remote dual filters setup on the Chevy and just keep changing filters and see what happens to the oil with used oil analysis.
