I posted last night about the oil in a newly acquired Troy Bilt mower and have one more question. The guy I bought it from said it had sat for about a year. Gas tank was almost full. The mower ran fine with a slight stumble every so often. Keep running the gas or drain and refill?

I'd still run it. I've had mowers sit for several years without running and they run fine once started.

Yeah I would keep running it also. I have a Troy Bilt snow thrower which sat for a year and she started up fine last month and ran like a champ.

I use Shell V-Power in the snow thrower.

Use it up soon. If you are not going to use it all in the next few months I would drain what is left after a few months.

I would just use it. Adding the cleaner would probably help if varnish is building. I have and continue to use older non stabilized fuel. I had a car set for 3 years and fired it up on gas that was in tank and it worked great.

However if possible I usually top off with fresh gas to blend the old gas. It loses octane over time and fresh gas will bring it back some.

I don't know if it's the ethanol in modern gas but my current Honda powered lawnmower is much more fussy about gas than my old B&S. I let my Honda mower sit for about 5 weeks last year and couldn't get it started without cleaning the carb jets....

I ran diluted 4 year old gas/varnish because I cant stand to waste stuff. I siphoned 5 gallons out of an old gas tank on a truck I bought. It was darn near varnish... Anyway, I mixed with fresh fuel and poured in my Corolla. Ran like [censored] but I used every drop. I would use it for sure.

I know someone that did that and had to have his truck towed and his fuel tank dropped..

sure saved alot burning that 5 gal of tractor gas.
