Old Fuel, E10

Decided to "tune up" my Ryobi CS30 string trimmer, aka weed whacker. I've not started it in 2 or so years. Everything I could see looked good and clean, the factory Champion spark plug looked great. I was curious if it would start and run. There was not enough old fuel in the tank so I added fuel/oil mix that was at least 2 years old. I did add FP60 to the fuel/oil mixture initially. It started and ran fine as long as I held the throttle open. It would stall on idle at first. The longer I ran it the longer it idled. It ran strong and didn't smoke at all. I'll use up the old fuel and get fresh fuel when it runs out. Most likely adding the FP60 helped to stabilize the fuel/oil mixture or I got lucky. They do sell ethanol fuel treatments for OPE, Stabil makes one. Now I have to revive my, not run in years, power washer. It has a B&S engine. That should be challenging

I've never had luck with running old fuel through a carburetor. It always clogs it after a tank or two. This is why when I clean a carb I drain the gas too and start with fresh stuff.

WHAT?! You mean that old ethanol fuel didn't instantly gum up and cease to flow in your carburetor

Just removed and cleaned the carb on my friend's 10hp Subaru generator. Huge gob of pure jelly in the bowl, main jet plugged along with every other orifice.

Tell me why we should love blended fuel again?

As Americans it is our duty to turn food the world could eat into poorly performing ethanol blended gasoline.

This helps sell a lot of new power equipment, and the farmers love the corn subsidies.

I paid $3.89 a gallon for ethanol free gas for my ope last week. Regular e10 was 3.57

I too, go out of my way and pay a similar premium for pure gas for my OPE. Sometimes, i'l fill the rest of the truck tank too. I get higher MPG on a partial pure gas tank every time.

The ethanol produces less power per x amount than gasoline does in the same amount. Thus requiring more of it to to the same as the smaller amount of gas
