Old Floor Jack

I have an old Alltrade floor jack, about 35 years old. It is Chinese made but an early model before they got real cheap. It is a beast, around 100lbs. Does not leak oil or leak down under load. But, every time I use it I wonder how much longer can this bad boy go before it has a major failure.

So, would you recommend replacing it? I am 76 and doing fewer and fewer big jobs. Maybe my old jack will last as long as I do?

I too am getting older and rarely need a floor jack, and just bought an aluminum one from Harbor Freight to replace my old, extremely heavy floor jack. The one I bought is less than half the weight.

I have an old Chinese jack that I bought back in the 90's. It developed a leak and after a bit of investigating I was able to get it working with a $1.49 O-Ring from Ace hardware. Paying $1.49 for a 22 cent O-Ring is a discussion for another day.

I say keep using it unless you just want a lighter aluminum one.

Not uncommon to need two IME. Buy the Daytona but keep the old one

This 3 Ton Daytona Jack is a beast and worth every penny. I'd wait until HF has a sale on it (maybe Black Friday) and buy the color of your choice. I purchased mine in 2011 and have used it several time a week without any maintenance or repairs. The only thing that has worn out is the rubber cushion pad that sits in the cradle. Parts are available for it through HF online.

You can never have too many trolley jacks. I probably have 5 at my various places. Only 3 at our primary home. Every time I see a Daytona sale I get itchy.

If you have any concerns about your Jack, then use the above thing as a Safety Measure!

You don't have to lift that Jack you know just roll it around like it was meant to be. At 81 I still have my 30 year old Craftsman it works great but I'm not concerns how many deadlifts I can do with it!

Buy a new one to your liking and keep the old one. It has served you well and may be needed at some point.

I have a 2 ton and 2.5 ton alumnium floor jack. It makes a big difference, I'm done with scooting iron and steel around in my late 40s.

You don't have to lift that Jack you know just roll it around like it was meant to be. At 81 I still have my 30 year old Craftsman it works great but I'm not concerns how many deadlifts I can do with it!

My garage has minimal floor space, so the big floor jack has been living in the shed out back. I guess I could just throw it in the Gorilla cart to bring around front, but the HF aluminum one fits on a shelf after removing the handle, which is a matter of unscrewing a knurled nut without any tools.

Just check the pivots under the saddle pad, my chinesium AL one had the leveler arm upper pivot pin fail from the C-clip falling off the end. I never noticed but they left almost no material after the grove and it bent over and failed... Nothing fell but not great for a simple engineering failure to occur.
My Chinese Torin steel 3T is a bit more robust but not crazy heavy.
