Old Dashboards

Here in south Florida, many dashes (and other plastic/rubber parts) crack or melt. Often before the warranty expires. I have had the dashboards replaced in both of my '06 cars, one of them has cracked again. I use a sunshade when parked in the sun and park in a garage at least 50% of the time. I typically use a low gloss UV protectant from mcguires or mothers. I have just ordered my first bottle of 303. I suspect in my case the damage occurs while I am driving.

Dodge trucks are notorious around here for the dash pads disintegrating, as well as Toyota/Lexus and all Nissan products have made the news locally. I'm sure there are others that I have not been exposed to. I've had it happen to Fords and Infinitis myself.

Well, at least we know they're getting better. Years ago here, just about every dashboard was ruined.

Now, it's much rarer. But, we see in your level of heat and sun, there still are problems.

My 29 year old dash on my Monte Carlo SS is still intact with no cracks. I have had it for half its life and it gets Meguiars protectant on it 4 or 5 times a year. Being a T top car it gets lots of sun.
