Can you Canadians not order filter via a website or something to get the filters you want cheaply? it is ashamed about your selection and prices.

Wow, great thread guys, and thanks for the input. It is hard around here to find anything but Fram from the major parts suppliers. I went to a local TSC and ALL they had was a whole wall of Fram. I was lucky enough to stumpble accross a CarQuest that sold WIX filters, and had a Wix and Fram cut open side by side. There is a BIG difference. I think Fram does make okay and useable filters, but the WIX was a drastic improvement. Just a general sturdier contruction with a more solid spring mechanism. Even the gasket was thicker. Also and more importantly, my oil pressure increased by 5 PSI on cold startup after switching to the WIX. I'm wondering though if it was the fresh oil that made the difference, but it was enough for me to go for the Wix from now on. Just food for thought. Thanks alot for the input guys.

I have shipped plenty of items to friends in Canada. The main problem is their customs and the forms you have to fill out before shipping to them. You have to declare the contents accurately as their customs can open the packages if they suspect otherwise and actually lay custom fees and taxes to the person it was addressed to.
Canada is not the 51st state of the USA like many here think. They have a quasi european style of government that includes higher taxes to pay for items like national socialized medical. Due to taxes and fees imposed upon Canadians for goods they make even in Canada, Americans can actually get Canadian goods imported cheaper for sale in the USA than Canadians pay for themselves.

I have one question about the prices given on this thread. When prices N and S of the border are being discussed, are those doing the discussing adjusting the US and Canadian dollars accordingly? There's an 85 cents Canadian on the US dollar difference there as of this writing.
I cant say for the other but I rarely do the conversion on small item like oil filter. At that level it dpesnèt really matter. Its always amazing that the Fram filter are more expensive on your side of the border.
Here you can almost say that a fram is most of the time half price form a wix or UAP and Carquest . We can even get the Fram clone at canadian tire for .50 cents less.
A napa nascar select 3600 is roughly the same price as a motomaster fram for me. The only thing cheaper than these two is the defense fram at walmart.
They are cheaply made, too expensive for what it's worth.
I hear ya...too bad they don't make them for my 92 galant SOHC 2.0....but i'll keep running the MC820S in the F150.

Orange cans are made to meet or exceed OEM requirements. While they may barely meet the requirements, they still meet them. With that said, the orange can made provide you with a lesser margin of error compared to a higher-end filter, and may have a greater chance of failure under any less than ideal conditions, but they still do the job.
It's highly unlikely that using a Fram oil filter and following the OEM service intervals will be significantly detrimental to your engine's life.
With that said, a Fram PH3593A is going on a '98 Elantra that I'm servicing next Thursday. Besides, one thing you have to realize is that if you are servicing someone else's vehicle, they may give you strange looks if you put on a SuperTech, Wix, etc...but Fram is widely recognized and won't be questioned.

Yep. They're available at Grainger and at most truck repair shops. But you never ever see them in an auto parts store.
It isn't just the things you mention below that sets them apart Ryan. The equivalent Wix (aka Carquest Blue or NAPA Gold) will have more media (greater filter surface area) than the Fram, and the media generally has superior specifications. The filtering ability was documented in one of the studies that used a bubble point tester, so this isn't hear-say, it's fact.
Some people (usually our US friends) like to say that you can a better filter for less money. No you can't - not here in Canada. There are Frams at their $4-$6 price range, and then there are much better filters at $6 - $12. I buy NAPA Golds (Wix) at just under 7 bucks a piece here in Ontario.

A counter guy showed me a cut up Fram and a cut up Wix. I haven't used Fram since if I could help it. I really like Baldwin.
Can get Wix for 5.40 or Napa Gold for 5.25 on the west coast[B.C.] of Canada.Plus there is an enviro tax of .50 cents per filter.
How about the NASCAR Select NAPA's? Guy at the counter showed me the choped up cans today and there was a difference between the Gold and Select. Biggest difference was the amount of filter media, there was some difference in the drain back and the bypass and an extra seal around the cartridge itself. The bottom of the line ProSelect didn't look good at all! The NASCAR that I picked up was $5, more than worth the price over a FRAM, I think. But as someone said won't they do for most average drivers? I won't buy oil at NAPA as they are $1.50 more than Walmart for the national brands and their no-name is $1 more than the Tech2000! It would be nice to pick it all up at one time.

This is so true! Perception is so powerful! I've been through this when servicing family members vehicles--the orange can is instantly recognized by everyone, even the ladies, and they feel comforted when they see it come out of the box! But whip out a Wix or NAPA Gold and I have to start explaining that they're a good filter, etc, etc and I can see the doubt and concern on their faces!
