Ok To Use a Hydraulic Filter With a Higher Bypass Setting?

I think this would be application specific. A lot of equipment have filters on the inlet side of the hydraulic pump, so the fluid is essentially pulled through it. While the flow is increases substantially, the possible restriction if it clogged could damage the pump. So in a complicated modern hydraulic excavator, this could be bad. In a homemade log-splitter, it may be just fine.
