Oil viscosity fact question

I would consider M1 10W30 if it was available here! However the only M1 locally available (by which I mean this region of the UK) are 0W40 and 5W50 (or it could be 15W50, don't recall exactly; certainly no 30WT.)

Amsoil is imported from the US in very small quantities. The 10W30 I mentioned is claimed to be "Fully Synthetic"; it doesn't appear to be the XL7500 discussed elsewhere. At least, that does not appear on the side of the bottle pictured by the mail order company (www.demon-tweeks.co.uk)

Very telling, indeed (especially considering your latitude) ...

Have you also looked at the Aral oilguide?

You didn't say how much in terms of dollars or pounds the Mobil 1 0W-40 actually costs.

If it is anywhere reasonable, I would go for it.

You could do a uoa, but I'd bet it could go 10K with no problem at all.

OIL SHOCK!

I just did a few price comparisons on oils available on the website SEC mentioned in England.

All prices for 5L (5 quart) jugs, with the equivalent prices in English pounds, US dollars and Aussie dollars.

Mobil 1 0W-40
32.90 UKP--------$60.30 US-------$80.56 AU
Castrol GTX Magnatec 10W-40
22.35 UKP--------$40.96 US ------$54.72 AU
Amsoil 10W-40
34.00 UKP--------$62.32 US-------$83.25 AU

As you can see, oil is expensive in most other countries.

What do you guys pay for 5 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40?

I would go the Castrol Magnatec 10W-40, at least its the right viscosity for the app.

I didn't really understand the comment "very telling". Could you elaborate, please?

I did go to the Aral guide you mentioned, having previously visited the BP and Esso sites which have similar facilities. Aral recommended the following for my car (Mazda Xedos V6 2.0)

Aral SuperTronic SAE 0W-40 4
Aral SuperTronic 2 SAE 0W-30 4
Aral SuperTronic G SAE 0W-30 4
Aral HighTronic SAE 5W-40 4
Aral HighTronic F SAE 5W-30 4
Aral Tronic 431 SAE 5W-40 4
Aral BasicTronic SAE 10W-40 4
Aral MultiTurboral SAE 15W-40 4

The BP site recommends their 0W40 product; Mobil recommended their 10W30.

BTW posting on the M1 question site is very disappointing - no reply for 2 weeks now!

That's the Oz equivalent of what SEC is paying in England, it is not the price charged for the product in Horsetralia.

From Patmans reply, you can see that he is paying over double the price for the M1 0W-40.

Yes, I find it revealing that you aren't even offered an xW-30 syn oil as an option to purchase! You did mention Castrol's 0W-30 was "rarely available and even more expensive," & that Amsoil's 10W-30 had to be "imported from the US by a company based in Wales." This tells me the same thing that Saab's OE oil distribution tells me: that Europeans are more concerned about both vehicle & oil longevity than we Colonists are.

Can you get any of the Aral 30 wts listed?

Do you have any Opel or Saab dealers near you? They should be carrying the new 0W-30 & 0W/5W-40 LongLife full syn oils that are required if the owner's going to rely on the on-board OLM. (We don't have Opel over here, & Saab only sells their new 0W-30 full syn & a reformulated (thinner) 5W-30 syn blend, even though they have been offering a 0W-40 full syn & 10W-40 dino in Europe for years.)

These sure are some punishing price levels!! Are there not any good cheap dino oils in Britain??

Any equivalent to Castrol GTX ??

SEC,

I'm quite certain one of these oils would work for you .

The Formula LL B01 0w-30 or one of their 5w-40's and I have seen an analysis of the Sint 2000 10w-40 ran in a Twin Turbo Corvette and it held up well .

AGIP UK

These oils are also available in the UK as an alternate choice to Castrol

The Exellium 0w-40 might be a good choice or even one of their blends .

ELF

And now these oils are exported from the USA to other parts of the world . On the 3w-30 one could just strike the " 3" as it's really a 0w-30 .

Groovy Synergyn Motor Oil

The entire Motorex line should be available in the UK now . Their B-XL 0w-30 and FS-X 0w-40 would be great choices along with their Topaz 10w-40 Syn Blend .
