oil useage

had a head gasket that placed oil into my cooling system on a 3800 cc olds....no coolant in the oil.....The head gasket was replaced and the engine started using quart every 1500 miles....BEFORE THIS I NEVER NOTICE ANY USAGE......Mech says might be normal for a cyl to use more oil after headgasket redo....Any thoughts? CHARLIE

What year is the car? I just got done working on a 3800 . It could be the head gasket or heads warped or it could be intake gaskets its not normal for a car to use oil after a head repair . Is it losing any coolant?

Did it overheat? Valve stem seals may have been cooked or Rings lose tension.

1995 old 98 regency elite...Heads were machined...Valves not done....nothing done before this...Sorry not to answer sooner but site would not let me in...Tried 10 w 30 and 10 w 40 no difference...I'm now going to add oil till 8000 miles and replace oil and filter.....What is this called, oil change on the road?...No over heat...No coolant lost...
