Most here would say to use an HDEO such as Rotella T6 5W-40 or even T5 10w30 for OPE's and 4-wheelers though.
What kind of 3-wheelers are we talking? Is there a transmission on these?

I'd err on the side of an HDEO rather than passenger car oil (eg Rotella T6 5w40, Delvac 5w40, etc.), and it has the benefit of being a bit cheaper than Mobil 1 0w40. But the Mobil 1 should be OK. Most lawn equipment seems to call for SAE 30 or 5w30 these days. My newest Briggs V-twin actually warns against 10w30 in ambients over 80F, but allows synthetic 5w30 at all temps. But I figure synthetic HDEOs at xw40 should be fine now as well.

Honda's. 1985 Big Red 250 and 1983 200S. Book on the Big red suggests 5w30-10w40 automotive oil. No mention of JASO rating to be used. Engine and Trans share the same case.

Use a 4t oil on the three wheeler.
Gears whip out oil quick. Hdeo, 20w50, motorcycle/atv in that order. Syn oil not that much better, they take heat better is their only plus. In the atv's.

Rotella 10W30 or Mobil 1 10W30, or Pennzoil Platinum 10W30 or Quaker State Ultimate Durability 10W30, are all good oils for OE.
40 weights and up simply cause the engine to run hotter.

Thinking of trying Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 since been recently getting quite a stash of the stuff, after my Rotella stash gets used up.
Then today received a case of Kendall w/Titanium but its 5w-20.

I have been using Mobil 1 MX4T 10w-40 weight oil in my air cooled engines, but since its so expensive ($11/qt) I will likely switch to a 30 or 40 weight rotella.

I've got more small engines than I can count. I use conventional rotella 15w40 in everything from my motorcycles to my air compressors and generators.
Cheap,meets JASO for wet clutches and can be found in 5 gallon pails.

My Small engines seem to have a fuel dilution issue. The fuel gets in but never evaporates out in the winter,so I check everything weekly.
I've got 14 air compressors now,an 7 generators,so buying jugs of oil is pointless.
