Thanks everyone for the comments. So there doesn't seem to be any particular concerns with the particular engine model, and I gather extended performance oils are just generally better.

I guess due to lots of short trips, I will stick with a 5w20 and think about whether I want to run an extended for say 7500 miles, or a 'regular' for a shorter oci.

Yes, although its mostly base oil in it thats better, and if you use them for normal oil change miles or time, you get less black deposits on your pistons. In your original post, you indicated you were interested in the best possible performance, which many here forget is your goal.

Also, remember Chrysler could deny you engine warranty coverage if you make a claim and they notice you haven't used the Chrysler spec oil like Castrol Edge Extended Performance 5w20.

Recommend just using the Extended Performance type oils since they cost about the same as lesser oils and are the best the oil maker offers. Cheap at walmart. If you can't find Castrol Edge (gold jug) Ext Perf 5 quarts at walmart, or see something elsewhere, you can also get very good NAPA full syn for cheap on sale (check for the Chrysler spec whatever u do.).

Off this topic. Ignore 540rat, its not related to our engine reality.

To be clear, I did not post the link because I'm some sort of disciple of that guy. I was just doing my own research and ran across him. SEEMED fairly credible.so thought it might be helpful.
Could you please explain what you mean that his findings are not related to engine reality.
Thank you.

What he means.... is that none of his "data" has any bearing on the life of your engine under the use that it will see. Buy a quality name brand oil, change it based upon the OLM and you will see pretty much the same performance no matter which flavor you pick.

It has been discussed a lot. I digged for the info once. Also, I'm an engineer myself. What 540rat did doesn't fully relate to what's going in inside your engine, as tribofilms are set up under certain heat and pressure conditions which are not duplicated with 540rat's tests. That is why SN, dexos1, ACEA tests are really the full performance picture of an oil, not the very narrow physics in 540rat's tests.
