My 97 Buick Park Ave full size luxury car with 100K miles on it still runs great. It idles smooth, has good power, and averages 33 mpg on highway at 70 mph. It does not lose any engine coolant.

For most of its life it had 10w30 conventional with no leaks. Then I switched it to Mobil One 5w40 synthetic and still no leaks. Several oil changes later I switched it to Penzoil 5w40 and still no leaks. It used those thicker synthetics for 10 years with no leaks.

At my last oil change I switched to Valvoline 5w30 Maxlife High Mileage full synthetic. It started having a slow drip from an unknown place. My cousin looked for it and can't find it. We have to add about ⅓ quart oil every 500 miles. So it's a minor leak, but messy and annoying.

My cousin replaced the PCV yesterday in case that might help. We haven't driven it since. So we don't know if that will help.

The Valvoline 5w30 full syn ML HM oil is still too new to change.

Are there good seal conditioner additives that you guys recommend that actually work and are safe for my engine?

You need to make sure everything in the PCV system is clear, meaning not just the PCV, but all of the hoses and where the PCV hooks into the Valve Cover.

You need to find out why this Engine is Leaking Oil!

I will get flamed for this, you used Conventional Oil, if you had used Mobil 1 then maybe we would not be having this discussion, that is just my thought. LOL

That's rather odd, complete opposite effect. Maybe you accidentally twisted the oil fill tube making it loose, oil can seep out of it. Happened to me once but I noticed it quick.

Yeah, replacing the valve cover gaskets on a transverse V6 is usually impossible :sneaky:

A quart every 1500 miles is on the high side but not the worst.

Get either Liqui-Moly Motor Oil Saver, or Blue Devil Oil Stop Leak, and mix in some UV dye and add it to the oil. Also get a UV light, if you don't already have one. The UV light is cheap on Amazon, and sometimes you can even get a kit that includes the dye, the blacklight, and a pair of yellow goggles

I wouldn't flame you, but please reread the OP. I did use Mobil One 5w40 syn with no leak, but that was 5w40 (thicker). Valvoline 5w30 syn leaks, but it's thinner. I think 5w30 Mobil One syn would leak too. I think any 5w30 syn would leak.

My cousin said there was no PCV hose. I can't look myself because I'm too handicapped. I'll have him check it again where it attaches to engine.

You clean everywhere as best as you can. Then add the dye to the existing oil. Then drive it for a bit. Then use a UV light, while wearing the proper glasses, and the source of the leak should show.
Thank you, I did not know this
is this the UV die that they run through the air conditioning system, I have a bottle of this in the shop it’s pretty small ounce or two it’s green, how much would you put in the oil?

Similar. They have dedicated dyes for each system, probably different colors, and then a universal dye. We have had vehicles where they put dye in each fluid and when you hit it with the UV light it looked like a scene from that MTV show where they turned on black lights in bedrooms.

I would run a blend or conventional hm oil and not full synthetic, 10w40 QS Allmileage, Maxlife red bottle or Pennzoil.

If Blue Devil oil stop leak does not fix an oil leak, then you likely need a new gasket or seal. End of story. And a bump up in viscosity can help as well with leaks and consumption. Also, we have had good results with Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30 oil by itself, or HPL EC40 in a 5W-40 or 10W-40 oil for heavier viscosity needs or warm weather. Things to try perhaps before tackling a repair.

What's HPL EC mean?
