I am currently on almost 2,000 miles with rinse phase of auto rx. 95 plymouth neon, purolator pureone filter. Its actually around 1,800 miles. I loked at my oil via dipstick 2 nights ago, and for the first time ever, my oil still looked golden amber! Its super tech 5w 30. Is this good or bad? I seem to rememeber oil shuold turn black or dark, that means its doing its job. I also now have valveclattter on just after start up. That means the oil fitler might be full?
dunno.gif

Its also the start of winter for the startup clatter. May be coincidental plus you'll have that filter off in 200 miles and should know. You could try a silicon filter next run. With a 95 is this the 2nd ARX or will you start another?

I went through two apps of ARX in my daily driver 94 Volvo 855T with now 179K miles. I bought it last year as a replacement winter car at 165K. I didn't get much history regarding the oil. Through both apps of ARX I remember being surprised at how clean the dipstick was through all the mileage two apps require, having checked also similar to the mileage you stated. The oil fill cap and top of the motor were both pretty dark and cruddy at the time. It was during the oil changes that I was finding all the crud that ARX was removing, it was in the filter. I had some lifter noise before I started that came and went throughout and now is pretty much gone but I'll be changing the oil uptake o ring this weekend and that should eliminate it completley. Now that I'm done with the main apps I have 3 ounces of ARX in the oil now and the dip stick oil still looks new coming up on 3K miles. I have to dump it this weekend to do the o ring change in the oil pan so I'll see what the filter and pan look like. You really see most benefits by the end of a full ARX cycle it seems to me, with changes happening during. You didn't say how many miles on your vehicle.

This is my first auto rx treatment.. i have already done rinse, and am now in rinse phase. I am defiently going to use auto rx for as long as i have drive! Yes, it is the beginning of winter almost here, in southwest connecticut. temperature outide afternnon right now, peaks around 45 to 50 degrees. At night, it drops to around 40. BY January and february, temperatures afternoon can drop to about 35 degrees, and at night, lowest i rememeber was 8 degrees. So i am was guesing the same thing, maybe its jsut the colder air causing that valve chatter.
Ive never seen an oil in my car, that never turned black ever. Usually i se it turn black, with any oil, after the first 500 miles. I do a fair amount of stop and go traffic, and highway its 50/50, but i dunno if its supertech jsut isnt good in my engine, or is htis the result of auto rx cleaning that good?

ziggy,

Auto-Rx is cleaning "crud' off the metal and now your oil is lubricating metal that never got oil before. Auto-Rx cleans internal sensors also.(noises will go away after rinse cycle)

Wpwren, sorry my neon has about 79,000 miles now. I did notice soe oil leakge from my motor, under car, a few hundred miles into clean phase. It seems ot have slowed down. I cannot get over that golden yellow oil! IVE NEEVR seen a car that i owned even after 1,500 miles with oil that color!! Except for one time, prior ot auto rx, i used a bosch premium filter, and pennzoil dino.. that oil looked yellow on dipstick, but coming outta the pan was balck as ________, almost. I never noticed dipstick yellow oil with any other oil fitler out thier, Ive more or less, used fram extra life, mobile 1, and purolator pure ones.

Try Mobil One after your Autorx apl- You can run 3 to 5 thousand miles and the dipstick is clear! Of course it depends on the motor, but it has worked just like that for me even in 10 year old V8's.

I have run mobile 1 for 2 years staright at 3 month oil changes, 5w 30 oil. Even with mobile 1 synthetic, and around 2,000 miles or 2,700 miles per 3 months, the oil was black. But that was before using auto rx. And those were with using moble 1 and pure one filters. Now i am using auto rx and cheap super tech 5w 30, the oil, ive never ever seen so amber ad yelow still after 2,000 miles!

Are you sure that the dip stick end in itself is much cleaner looking, as compared to before ARX? Take a good look at the rinse oil as it drains. Some folks get filthy oil out after the cleaning phase and some report that the rinse phase oil looks worse. I'd guess is it goes back to what caused the sludging in the first place. Not all sludge is created equal.

Very cool Ziggy, sounds like your engine puts pess wear on dino that even synthetic before your ARX treatment. I think how the oil acts clearly shows that ARX is working.

Zig, you're completed & drained the "clean phase", & are nearing the end of the "rinse phase", yes? If it was my car, I'd do the full 2000 miles for rinse, mebbe even add an extra 50-100 miles or so. Then be sure to drain it hot, when the engine is well warmed up. If you have to, go & drive it for 20-30 miles immediately before draining. Then, if your car is anything like mine(and I suspect that my engine was cleaner than yours when cleaning began), that oil that looks so clean on the dipstick will drain out about as dark as any motor oil you ever saw. When I drained the rinse phase oil(#1, did a double dose on my car)I was amazed at how much darker the drained oil was than what showed on the dipstick just one day before changing. It did it again on rinse #2, maybe not quite as dark as #1. Keep that Neon rollin' & let us know how the rinse oil looks when you drain it.

My rinse phase oil isn't as black as the clean phase, I can see why the clean phase recommendation is 1500 and the rinse is 2000. It's just an opinion but i think if the oil is still amber then maybe you can keep going on it.

Last night, i looked at my dipstick agian, same thing nice and yellow oil... s i have about 1,000 miles to finish of rinse phase... so i instaleld a new oil filter(went with fram extrecare, yeah i cheaped out this time).Precautionary measure in case the pure one filter was loaded. And inside the old fitler, it was BLACK. The stuff that came outta the filter and dripping form the pickup was BLACK. ________!lol. So, i installed the new fram extracare filter, and filled with the remaing supertech 5w 30 i had, and topped off the crankcase, since the dipstick showed i burnt off abut a quart of a quart of oil so far... jsut enough to put everythin back to 4.5 quarts. Can't wait to see soon. what comes outta the oil pan! And later today, I am gunna hack the pure one open see whats in thier:)

Will let you know Hughes:) Love my neon. I am thinking though, i might wanan try seafoam at 1 1/2 oz. per quart, and make a comparison. I do mainly short trip driving, ,meaning, i normally do about 2,000 to 3,,000 miles in 3 months. Not like 3,000 miles in a month or 2. Now that winter is coming here in southwest connecticut, i am most liekly gunna end up doing less dirving. So that 2-3,000 miles in 3 months is gunna be more like 1,500 or less.
But yeah stuart, will keep you and all informed:) Can't wait to share with all actually:)
