so, theroretically, if Blackstone cumulated all the data they have, sorted it by brand / series, and viscosity, and removed the outliers, couldn't you reasonably establish a trend of one singular oil that has less wear? You could remove vehicles that have statistical anomalies by removing anything thats a certain % higher than the global average. across THOUSANDS of test samples, seems to me like you would ultimately find a winner?

According to them they see no statistical difference between appropriately rated oils. They reported this in their newsletter.

But on the other hand a used oil analysis is not the tool to determine wear so that's not surprising. There is no "ranking" for motor oils.

The winner is you when you use the right viscosity Full Synthetic and a good oil filter at acceptable intervals. Maintenance is 1000 times more important than the brand of oil.

I like the idea but ...

I wouldn't see how as there aren't thousands of current test samples on BITOG, formulations are constantly changing, API certifications are constantly changing, refiners, add pack producers are constantly changing. The environment that engines operate in the USA widely varies from flat lands to extreme temperatures. On top of that ...
To date, no oil manufacturer markets their products based on tests showing it the best. So safe to say, just like gasoline, they are all the same if they meet the same API or other certifications required by your engine maker.

As much as it is fun to talk oil, there still is no proof that an oil like Model 1 is any better then Walmarts Super Tech of the same certifications.

however if you want less wear, you can always trust moly!

These kind of threads draw out some very oblique comments … of course there are advantages of one formula over another … but when the majority here toss it out early - not the great equalizer of lubes …
That is just how they choose to use time and money, all good too …
