These are low SAPs oils with rather low TBN. Normally in other parts of the world this would not be a problem, but the poor quality ethanol fuel that we use here in the US wreaks havoc on such oils causing the TBN to be depleted rather fast, hence, they should not be used for extended oil change intervals. Why then pay a premium price for this oil if you're going to have to change it early?

But if you need a good oil for your modern diesel engine which will not harm DPF, then these oils are a good choice.

That's a good point, but I wonder just how fast its TBN drops? Probably not as fast as typical SM dinos? The reason for using it is if you overlay VW 504 againt any other spec, 504.00 gives you way better relative performance. I't wear rating is 10.

I think there may have been some used oil analysis posted of Mobil 1 ESP that would give you some indication of how quickly the TBN gets depleted.

The Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 has a HTHS of 3.58 which is nice to have ESP. And it has the high relative wear rating of VW 504.00 and phosporus level of 800 ppm.
