I have a 2003 GMC Sierra HD1500 4X4 with the 6.0 liter engine. My oil pressure gauage has "pegged out". I understand that the problem might be the oil sending unit is out. Where in the heck is the oil sending unit located on that engine?

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday in my 98 Corvette! My oil pressure now reads 129psi all the time.
The sending unit on yours is probably in the same location as mine, and from what I understand, the intake needs to come off.
Looks like I'll be living without an oil pressure gauge for a while until I find someone willing to help me change it (and nobody in their right mind wants to work on an engine in this bloody cold!)

The sending unit is in the same place on all the LSx engines, which is roughly the same place as every small block Chevrolet - on the back of the block. If you look at this pic (best I could find), the factory sender is where the long braided hose goes into the block (the big round gold colored sender is on the OTHER end in this aftermarket setup), on the right side of the pic near the big black hose which is vacuum for the brake booster.
The left side of the pic is the front of the engine, by the way.

So the intake doesn't need to come off then! I was misinformed! (someone on the Corvetteforum mentioned that the intake needed to come off, as they also mentioned they thought it was a good time to swap on an LS6 intake-which is worth 10hp on the 97-00 LS1s)
You don't even have to remove the intake manifold on the vettes. My son worked as a Chevy mechanic for a couple years and used a special extra deep socket and extra long wobble extension to replace the sending unit in my brother-in-law's vette.
