That's the same stuff I was using, except I purchased a 20L jug. I think I paid $140 for it in 2012. It said Long Life III on the label.

Top Tec 4200 and most of LM's formulated oils are nearly all exclusively group III based. It's not even a true synthetic oil. It says so right in the amazon.com description.

With that said, Over $10 a Liter for mediocre Grp III based 507 oil is ridiculous. There is nothing special about this oil, except maybe the marketing which seems to be working.

If you want a quality 502/507 German made true synthetic oil, try Ravenol, Pentosin, Fuchs or even Rowe.

I have nothing against LM, and I think some of their additives are excellent. However their oils are not really impressive IMO.
 
Thanks, I am going to avoid using Liqui Moly oil for my Kodiaq 2.0 TSI...

Now on my list, Which one you'd prefer to use?

1. Ravenol VMP 5w30 (PAO based oil)
2. Red line 5w30 TD (Ester based)
3. Amsoil 5w30 EURO Series (PAO based)
4. Castrol EDGE Professional 5w30 FST (PAO?)
5. Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 (PAO?)

I'd probably try the Redline 5w30 or 10w30 but not the TD. I don't believe the TD is actually Ester based as the NOACK is kinda high @ 9%. The regular Redline HP 5w30 & 10w30 is Ester based and has low NOACK. If you decide to use Redline I believe you need to put 2K or more miles on the engine before they recommend trying their product.

If it were my car, I would use any oil I felt would protect my engine the best, which may or may not be a VW 502, 504, 507, or 508. If your concerned about having any warranty complications then you have limited options.

You also have port injection to keep the valves clean from deposits, so oil choice isn't as critical as pure DI would be.

You are right, Red line 5w30 TD is NOT Ester based, but PAO.

Well it's not really PAO based either. Like Top Tec 4200, It's mostly Group III with a splash of PAO. IF it were PAO based, the NOACK would probably be ~ 7% like with Ravenol.

According to the SDS it says < 55% Group III
And < 20% PAO

Thanks, then I might go for Full Synthetic OIL such as RAVENOL (PAO based) or REDLINE (ESTER based) to have better protection for my Kodiaq 2.0 TSI engine. (Assume higher % PAO/ESTER in oil can have better protection)

The Redline “Professional Series” are just watered down Redline products. The 5w30TD can’t much in the way of PAO (SDS says <20%) with a pour point of 39C. That’s typical group 3 temp.
 
That graph is from 2013. Outdated for the most part. Anything older than 2 years is not reliable these days as oils get reformulated.

The Signature Series Oils do not meet VW 502.00 or 508.00 specifications, therefore are not recommended. We do not offer a 5W20 meeting either of these VW specifications. AMSOIL oils meeting 502.00 include product codes AFL,EFM, and EFO. We do not yet offer an oil meeting VW 508.00.

So, I guess I will stick with 5w30 oil which is VW 502 00 certified. Thanks.

Which one? No Amsoil oils are on the Audi (Volkswagen) approved oil list.

I've seen that list before and it has always intrigued me. Where does it come from exactly and why can't you see it on the Audi website? Why is it different than the one available there? Is the "Audi" list only applicable to Audi branded vehicles?

In any case there isn't a 5w30 product as was claimed, but I definitely could be wrong about the other one. I wonder why the Amsoil Data Bulletin doesn't list 502?
