Oil sampling through dipstick tube?

Okay, I'm sure this must seem like a stupid question, but how does one extract an oil sample through the dipstick tube?

I gather it's siphoning procedure of some sort, but I'm not sure what the steps are or what equipment is needed.

Hi,
we use a suction pump to extract oil via the dipstick tube

We use this process;
1 - ensure engine is at operating temperature
2 - clean around top of tube
3 - insert plastic hose (take care-hot oil!)
4 - extract around 200ml of oil - discard
5 - use a new container - extract sample
6 - remove hose/insert dipstick
7 - clean container 4) above for re-use

Hi DD,
I would say that the Blackstone one will do the job well - the price seems OK too

I purchased ours from Castrol some years ago and they were about that money

I use an old water fountain compressor and a small alum.tank as a vacuum chamber.A compressor from a small refg.will also work.It works great also bleeding brake fluid.

Blackstone sends the perfect size sample bottles and a self addressed plastic can to send it to them.You can use the plastic bottles via syphon pump or collect when you drain the hot oil.I usually change the filter if not draining so if I can I fill the filter with clean oil and install. If not just top off.

I find the Fumoto valve works great for taking an oil sample...and changing the oil is a breeze also.

Well I just changed the oil on my wife's 05 Solara this morning and sent it off to blackstone so I should be getting a bottle in return mail. This will be the first time it has had an UOA.
