Oil Recommendation

I would stick with 5w30 for warranty reasons. Any name brand dino, semi-synthetic, or full-synthetic 5w30 would be fine. Mobil 1 & Castrol Syntec are probably going to be the most readily available synthetics in the Madison, AL area.

AC Delco oil filters are fine for your vehicle. They are good quality, low-priced filters that just plain get the job done.

Another filter you might want to look into is the Valvoline Maxlife filter #VF3675. They are currently free after mail in rebate at Advance Auto Parts.

I just bought a 2004 GMC Canyon crew cab. It only has 7000 miles. I've been lurking around your site for several months now but this is my first post. What oil would you suggest for my truck? It's the 5 cylinder and the manual says it holds 6 quarts. Also, do you like AC Delco oil filters? They're not expensive...$2.99-$3.49. Sorry all you Amsoil fans but I'm buying my oil at Walmart or a Auto Parts store. I like the availability of those places. Also, I'm not sure if I could wait 10,000 to do an oil change. It just goes against my nature. My last vehicle the oci was at 5000.

Forgot to mention that 5w30 is what is recommended by GM. FYI, just ran through my second tank and got 20 mpg this time...mix of city and highway driving.

Being in Alabama I think you could go with a 10w30 but for warranty I guess you should stick with the 5w. I like Maxlife oil, but you will get all kinds of brand recommendations here. AC filters are supposed to be pretty good last time I looked at one of the oil filter studies. Purolator Premium Plus filters are fairly low priced and are excellent filters.
