the car only gets occasional warm-up during winter months(2 start ups everyday day, move off drive way and back. plus a short drive ~20km round trip every week), then it's put in everyday use for 3 months in the summer time(everyday drive about 100km daily). Car's in sunny so-cal. What's a good oil to use if I must go with 1 year OCIs? Mobil 1 0w-40 or GC? Amsoil? MB factory recommands 5w40 I belive. thanks

Delvvac 1 would be great. If the car is in Sunny Cali-you could easily mix 5w30 @ Mobil 1 15w50
Looks like the total annual usage of the car will be in the 10,000 km range. That is just beyond the dino range and well within the range of synthetics.
Any first line synthetic oil would do fine. I prefer Mobil 1 but there are 5 more that would do just fine.
Use whatever viscosity the maker recommends (or as close as you can come).
Use a decent oil filter. I prefer the top rated Purolator Pure One Filter but again there are several that would do a good job for you.

Mobil 1 5w-40 is a great product. Mobil 1 0w-40 is more spec-correct. GC is naturally the choice of pros, but do you want to spend the effort looking? IMO, a change of Mobil Delvac 1300S 15w40 diesel-rated will clean things up in preperation for the synthetic...make it work better for long intervals. Yeah, run the 15w40 for a short while or until it gets too cold for the 15w-rating and then use the synthetic of choice.
I think the new Amsoil 5W-40 would be perfect for your application.
I am a bit confused by two things:
a) The moving the car in the driveway every day, but not really warming it up and driving it? I'm not sure if I'm reading your post correctly....if that is the case, this type of starting and not warming the car up fully is not very good for the car or oil, because it will concentrate condensation and fuel in the oil.
b) You live in BC (my neighbor) and speak KM...but the car is in Southern California?

Pablo, from my read, I get the impression pipebender's a snowbird wintering in California. I, too, am confused by the apparent habit of starting the engine just long enough to roll down the driveway and back up again twice a day. That's a bizarre routine procedure for any internal combustion engine - and with the stated goal of 1 year OCIs, no less?!
