I recently purchased a 'new' (to me) 2007 Pontiac Vibe with 70k miles on it. It has a 1.8L (4 cyl) engine, the same that is found in the Toyota Matrix and many other Toyota vehicles.
I have no idea what type of oil this car has seen for most of its life, however it came from the dealer with a 5w30 blend (not sure on brand).
Pontiac indicates the engine likes 5w30 (GM6094M standard). However, Toyota has released a TSB indicating this engine (also found in the new Matrices) can also happily run 5w-20 or 0w-20. Interval is 5k or 3 months per the manual.
I live in WI, so I'm sure the weather will play a role in oil selection. I also currently drive 4 miles (round trip)to work four out of every six days. This is mixed with occasional 40-80 mile trips on some of my 'weekends'.
There are no known issues/problems with the car right now.
I'm not really partial to any brand/type or even weight at the moment, just looking for some suggestions before I need to dump the mystery oil that I'm currently running.
